For those of you taking Rifampin, what drug(s)
are you taking with it, and what is your full protocol?

I am getting more physical symptoms, including increasing brain fog, messed-up stomach, and vision deterioration. From what I've read and researched, I think I have Lyme and Bartonella (and possibly micoplasma and/or Babesia.)

I am thinking of going after the Lyme and Bartonella first and see what happens, as I have a hard time with Abx.

Thanks for any help.

I do MTWHF on Minocycline and Rifampin and SS on Minocycline and Zithromax. I am also treating Lyme and Bartonella first and then going after the Babesia.

Thanks very much for all the answers.

Would anyone like to comment on his or her total protocol, and how they are tolerating all the meds together?

Aimee,

Your protocol sounds good to me.

I was on Doxy for 2 months, improvement at first, then stomach symptoms started getting bad again - diagnose was Candida. So I was backed down to a low dose Doxy, tried tiny doses of nystatin, then just stopped all meds. Everything I take seems to be hard to tolerate; nystatin, dyflucan, Zithromax, Cipro, bactrim, rifampin. Wondering if Doxy messed up my stomach. Maybe each med makes me herx?

Should I take them, grit my teeth and hope for the best?

twinkle,

I was on Doxy for almost two months and by the end of that time my gut was a mess. I took a 10 day break from abx while waiting to see my LLMD and then she put me on Minocycline instead of Doxy and that has been much easier on my stomach. I had a little nausea and dizziness the first week or so on the Mino but that has gone away and I am tolerating it much better than the Doxy.

I just had an allergic reaction to the Zith so I have had to stop all abx temporarily until my hives go away. Not sure what we will replace the Zith with.

The rifampin caused me to have a strong herx for about 4 days (emotionally and physically) and that started about 5 days into this combo treatment. After that I really did notice tremendous improvement in my symptoms and started having days where I felt almost back to normal up until the allergic reaction a few days ago. Just hoping I don't slide too far backwards while I am off abx.

I used the 10 days off abx to really work on healing my digestive system. I loaded up on pro-biotics and supplements and was very careful with my diet. I noticed improvement after about a week.

Hope you get to feeling well enough to start treatment again.

Aimee

Amantadine is a Flu drug but it also helps Zith pentrate the cells better (per Dr. B guides)

I took Rifampin with Biaxin. My sister uses Zith.

thanks aimee,
I will print your response and take with me to my Dr. apt. next week. Maybe try minocycline and see how it goes, being ready for a week or more of reactions such as you described. I will follow your advice re: probiotics, etc. right now.

I am on a mostly raw food vegan diet and have eliminated sugar except for fruits, and also no flour, except for bread now and then, and lean chicken, salmon, turkey. Still have lyme though!

Mojo,
Thanks! I will get back to you after i see the LLMD.

I take it with clarithromycin and plaquenil. I'm positive for Lyme and either bartonella or mycoplasma - I'm not sure how to read my results.

I also just started Malarone for babesia.

This combo has brought me the most improvement by far.

Forgot to mention that eating papayas is delicious and very soothing and helps with digestion. (Source of papain) The trick is finding a thoroughly ripe one. Markets that cater to Mexicans and Latinos have the best ones that are ripe right out to the thin skin, yellowish, and yield to a little pressure on the outside. I think the source is different from the supermarkets which always have green ones, which have a 1" thick white layer under the skin. Sometimes even these taste good, but mainly in the summer.
