I'm concerned about the acidophilus in the yogurt.

The antibiotic will kill the live yogurt cultures. (Antibiotics kill everything)
I assume you are eating the yogurt for that aspect of it, so separate them by at least 2 hours.

The antibiotics will probably kill off all the good flora regardless of what time you take the pill, and what time you take the yogurt. Best to just eat it when you want it, and then take a high potency probiotic like VSL # 3 plus Florastor to prevent c.diff. Once the gut flora gets out of balance, its a HUGE problem.

I found while on abx that yogurt exacerbated my yeast issues. Couldn't eat it without problems.

I just felt tonight like the only thing I wanted to eat was yogurt but decided not to.

Hmmm... Interesting...I don't seem to have any more yeast symptoms...I guess that would be true for kefir as well. I am going to order the Kefir grains.
I guess if it doesn't affect me negatively I will eat it because of the live cultures and it seems to benefit me. Thanks for the info TuTu

If you buy yogurt at the store, it is quite possible the culture is dead and yes most commercial brands of yogurt contain sugar. If you make your own yogurt, you yourself can assure the culture size and the amount of lactose in it if any. If you culture for 24 hours it should be lactose free and contain nothing but lactase.

I got some kefir grains from someone here locally for free and it tastes very good. If it is too sour, you can back down a bit - either reduce the time or reduce the amount of grains or add more milk.
But then of course, taste is a personal thing. Do you like plain yogurt?

The healthy bacteria in yogurt is something you really need while on antibiotics, but they will be killed off if you take them with the abx. I would wait and have the yogurt in between doses of your meds. Too much sugar in the yogurt will defeat the good it can do. I buy plain yogurt and sweeten it with stevia. Someone mentioned the quality of the yogurt. I know that Stoneyfield was rated really high when someone doing a study tested for good bacteria. I don't remember the other brands, but you may be able to find that kind of info on the internet. PB

not really. i do enjoy sour cream but avoid it because of yeast and calories.
lowfat and nonfat yogurt has sugar and contains aspartame, which i am trying to avoid.
i would need to make it more pallitable without the sugar content. do you have any tips or good recipies?

gem - we are lucky that we both love plain yogurt so plain kefir was natural to us. my daughter who is almost 4 however does not like it so we have to make fruit smoothie for her.
making fruit smoothie is very simple of course, especially in the summer. we don't go by any recipe but simply throw in some fresh berries and cinnimon power and ice to blend and serve. i pour in the kefir the last few seconds of the blending but i don't think it matters.
The milk sugar (lactose) in both kefir and yogurt is eaten up by the live cultures.
Therefore, a lactose intolerant person like me can eat yogurt and kefir without having to take lactase enzyme (the enzyme needed to digest lactose).
My plain yogurt does not list sugar as an ingredient. And, since the milk sugar is virtually all gone, it is a good food for those on a low or no carb diet. That's why Burrascano says to eat kefir and plain (no sugar) yogurt daily.
The cultures in kefir are actually supposed to be better than the probitics we take.

Dairy combines with these abx and makes them Useless --jay--

Yikes, seriously? Have been having my little one take his pills with those drinkable yogurts.
All his symptoms (he had many) have disappeared, and his gut doesn't appear to have any issues....

always check the product info that comes with your antibiotics or ask your pharmacists for any special instructions.
The kefir I use does have sugar in it; but I swear after drinking it everyday for about a month my stomach got so much better. I only drink about a cup of it and I take extra acidopholus along with it. Its the best thing I have used for my stomach!
I don't eat other sugars, so I think the bit of sugar in the kefir is not that much to worry about.
