Just wondering.

My LLMD said I could go to 1500mg, but didn't know if it would really help anything, or if it was really a great idea.

He didn't actually suggest it, I just asked and he said OK and changed the prescription.

1,500-2,000mg is good dosing when combined with other antibiotics. [Smile]

Lol that's wrong info. The more you take the better. Only a percentage of macrolides are absorbed, that's why you do need to take more than 1,000 mg.

That is where I got the info from, my medical textbook and pharmacology bible.

Wild,

Did you use Biaxin in your treatment? Did you find it to help?

I have used it from the very beginning... about 18 months now, along with other abx. It has helped, but now I don't know if I've been on it for too long or if I need to increase it.

Can your body build up a tolerance to it?

My LLMD prescribed 1000 mg of regular Biaxin and 1000 mg of Biaxin ER at the same time. I tried that out for two months after IV Rocephin and got steadily worse. It also gave me the worst nausea of my life.

Yes it helped me very much! Was one of the best antibiotics I was on. I took Biaxin with several other antibiotics at the same time, which made it even better. Biaxin + Bicillin is really good, as is Biaxin + Bicillin + Ceftin, and the best of them for me was Biaxin +Bicillin +Ceftin + Flagyl. [Smile]
Alone it worked well too, but it's best to combine it with others to hit the Lyme and co-infections as hard as possible.

Yes, I was wondering if increasing the dose would help. I like Biaxin, and it helped a lot at the beginning, but I'm wondering if I should increase it now to see further improvement.

It's just been so long that I wonder if my body has gotten used to it (if that can even happen).

I'm also on flagyl, amoxicillin plus probenecid, and bicillin.

I'm thinking I should have all of my bases covered, but was wondering if increasing the Biaxin would be of any benefit.

Has anyone started at a lower dose then increased it, resulting in a benefit?

Wild, is Ceftin in the penicillin family?

Thanks everyone for your help

It it doesn't get absorbed -don't worry. What is worse if it doesn't reach concentration necessary to kill bacteria. This might lead to resistance build up. Resistance build not when there is too much drug in the blood (dead bacteria dont mutate)- it builds up when its not enough!

Seems like great combo.Probenecid is increases drugs concentration in blood (mostly those primarily excreted by kidneys). You could add rifampin to it and it would be almost complete

I was up to 2,000 mg and I could not sleep!! I haven't found anything to make me feel one bit better.
