Hi, My doc called to say my Parvovirus level was 4.8, something like 1.0 is positive.
I thought, "What the...?" How on EARTH could I have gotten THIS??!
Now I ask you...COULD this be connected to the two tick bites too?
(I had two ticks in Late May...both tested positive, so no question I have Lyme)...
Can Ticks carry Parvo? Or do I just have double dumb luck???

I know someone who most likely had Lyme and also got the parvovirus. I kinda think they could be related!
Don't know about it being transmitted by ticks.

Parvovirus is more commonly known as "Fifth Disease".
It is an extremely common childhood illness. Causes the classic "slapped-cheek" rash on the face, fever, then a lacy rash on the trunk and limbs.
The virus is passed person to person not through tick bites.

You are right, however, people are usually exposed to it during childhood and are supposed to have a lifetime immunity. I know several other people with Lyme disease that also tested positive for it.
I also tested positive for ebv, herpes simplex 1, hpv and several other viruses.
Sounds like the connection could be that when one is infected with Lyme, other viruses that were inactive can become active again because of a suppressed immune system.

The Parvovirus is going around here really bad. Two of my grand kids have it now, and two of my kids. It's in all the day cares around here. I don't think it has anything to do with ticks. It's a virus that spreads like a cold. Ticks aren't usually a problem here this time of year. Todays high was 34, and our low tonight is 20. Brrrrr

My daughter got Fifths disease 7 days after a 3 day course of IV abx for a double kidney infection. This was a few years ago, before we knew she had Lyme.
I wonder if the abx brought it out or if she just caught it from the hospital. I didn't know that Fifths Disease was "parvovirus"

I had Fifths Disease a few years back when it was going around in my classroom.
A bunch of kids in my class got it and I came down with it, too.

Hi I was diagnosed with Parvo and not lyme for a year. I think the lyme makes our lovely childhood viruses come alive again. Parvo B19 has symptoms very similar to stage one lyme disease. I was basically diasabled in the beginning while I supposedly had this too..be careful and take care of yourself. Monica

Monica, I think you're right, as are those who suggest it suppresses our immune systems, or "beats them up". I just can't believe the cooincidence of two lyme positive ticks, extreme joint stiffness/pain, and then PARVO for People!
Yipee! OMG..I am SO glad I plucked the ticks from myself, and had them tested. THIS coupled with a verification of how long they were embedded has been crucial. If not for this, the docs could have blamed this positive Parvo test for all of my troubles.
It may be playing a role, but it's a duet, not a solo. Who knows? Maybe it's a quintet.

Monica, can you please tell me what test picked up your Lyme? In my case, the ticks were enough, with their test results. I'm beginning to think a doc may want to have MY Lyme results.
SO...Am I carrying Fifth Disease? I had a Great Nephew born today. Downside, is he's just 26 weeks/2lbs 5oz.
Until I feel I'm no longer a WALKING DISEASE, I don't imagine I should be anywhere near him. I'm far away, but he'll still be fragile when I'm in town next.

If that is an IgG result it does not mean you have Parvo. If it is IgM, then that is a different story.
My Parvo IgG has been in the 7s, and recently went up to 10. We are watching it to see if it continues to go up, which might indicate active, chronic infection. However an IgG of 7 did not mean active infection.

I have high titers of parvo, HHV6, and EBV, in that order. Parvo was the highest.

I know someone who died from the parvovirus. So it CAN get very nasty. She probably had some other underlying disease at the same time...?

Sorry it's not parvovirus going around here right now. It's hand foot and mouth. My grand kids did have parvo virus last year, and I watched them but never caught it.

As you've probably determined from the other posters, parvo and Lyme are not really connected.
Parvo is contracted by many people as childen who grow up never even aware they've been infected. Many do not ever find out they carry antibodies indicating a past infection unless a doctor goes looking for it.
The one time you need to be wary of this disease is during pregnancy. It can cause birth defects and premature labor in pregnant women who are exposed to the disease for the first time while pregnant. If you test positive for antibodies from a previous infection while pregnant, you are immune and need not worry.

Until Tincup posted, my fried little brain had run right past that little nugget of information and not processed it. No wonder you are concerned about being contagious.
I hope you contact your doctor--or get a second opinion elsewhere--about that Parvo test. If those are antibodies from an old infection, they should be able to tell you, and if they are, you need not worry about passing it on.
Sending up prayers for you and your new nephew's health!
