So I was on Amox for one month at 1000mg 3 times a day with Probenecid at 500mg 1 time a day.

Now switched to Ceftin 1000mg 2 times a day with Azithromycin 250mg 2 times a day.

Before any of the above I was on Doryx 400mg 2 times a day, which I would get slight muscle twinges, but the doc felt I should have herxed again.

So when I was on the Amox, I had much more muscle pain and joint aches and had a week of feeling better.

Doc felt that I should have had more weeks of feeling good so he prescribed the Ceftin and Azith.

Are the dosages of the above 2 abx too low? I tested negative for coinfections, just have the lyme.

Last Sunday, when still taking Amox, I started to get hand shakes in the left hand and my head is a bit foggy today.

Haven't started the new meds yet. Problem is I had a reaction to Ceclor when I was a kid which comes from the same sporin as Ceftin.

Doc's reply was to take the Amox and Azith together then, but if the Amox is not working...why still take it? Plus Amox was causing me yeast even with Diflucan and Probiotics and diet.

I'm all sorts of confused. Can anyone help?

Looks like your Zithromax dose could be increased to atleast 600 mg/day or higher, but the Ceftin looks good.

If you are confused about what to take, you really need to ask your doctor. Amoxicillin +Ceftin + Zithromax seems strange to me, then again, Bicillin is often used with Ceftin/Zithromax, so it may indeed be right. Call and ask, and make sure to note the yeast issues. Are you on Nystatin or Diflucan with your protocol? Make sure you beef up your probiotics too. [Smile] Call and ask!!!!

I am not taking Amox with the Ceftin and Azithromycin. Amox was separate.

With the Amox I took the Probenecid, but he felt that I should be feeling better.

Because my symptoms were more severe, he switched me to Ceftin and Azithromycin.

He told me that the Ceftin attacks the bugs outside my cells, white the Azithromycin attacks the bugs inside my cells.

But when I said I might be allergic to the Cefin, he told me to take Azithromycin and Amox together and eliminate the Probenecid.

I do call and ask but feel like a pain and usually the nurse has to call me back. And if I have another question she then has to call me back again.

I just don't want this to turn into chronic Lyme.

Woops just re-read your post and edited my response. Your doses are whopping!! But if you're tolerating them OK then I suppose that's OK (I realize that was not your question).

Taking even 1/4 of your doses would land me in bed. Ceftin/Zithromax is a good combo as is the one I'm on, Ceftin/Biaxin. Yes, you need the macrolide with the Ceftin. Sorry, no other input, good luck with that!

btmb03, you are not alone. I have done higher doses in the past, but it was way too hard on me. I seem to do much better on low dose therapy.

Just to clarify, I am not combining Amox, Ceftin and Azith.

I am suppose to stop Amox and take Ceftin/Azith combo.

But I was allergic to Ceclor (same sporin as Ceftin), so he told me to take Amox with Azith and stop the Probencid.

My B12 and VD levels are low, but I am getting shots and taking TONS of supplements.

My diet has done a complete turn over, which is fine bc I feel healthier overall from it. Should have been doing that b4 the lyme.

My only problem is the exercise part. I am starting to get the muscle weakness but after working all day, Im so tired.

Sometimes its an effort to do laundry, just because my body want to relax.

That's my next thing -- the exercise. I know its an important component and is a MUST.

I just want to get rid of it already and feel like ME again. I would take higher doses if allowed and was safe.
