I have CFIDS/fibro for 10+ years and CDC + IGeneX test diagnosed a few months ago. I have just seen an LLMD and am ready to start minocycline.
I am very concerned about starting before I get the H1N1 flu shot (yes, I am going to get it; I already got the seasonal flu shot with no problems) which may not be ready till late Nov.
How will I know if I am getting a herx vs the flu. The symptoms sound similar. From what I have read, you don't have to get a high fever with the H1N1 or you could get a low-grade fever for the first few days, which could then become high and Tamiflu is only effective in the first 48 hrs.
I'm scared to start minocycline before I get the flu shot. Anyone have any ideas? Thanx. 14k

I see no reason to delay your treatment. Why would you have to know if it's a herx or the flu? Doesn't really matter which it is.

i had the flu and it was clear to me it wasn't a herx...but i guess if you don't know what your herx is...then you might not know.
thing is docs all over don't know how to dx it and when to prescribe tamiflu
you're right about the fever thing-but my doc didn't knwo that(its on cdc website and other news shows)
i took D and NAC before i got it and elderberry ext when i had it and apparently had a really weak case...because of supps i'm assuming. many do have very mild case anyway-but i have chronic illness and resp history
a lot of ppl need abx for the sore throat that comes with it-you might be better off just starting meds

Keep a script of tamiflu on hand. My LLMD gave me one. Then if you really think you have the flu, take it.
If you are so sure the flu shot is worth getting, then why are you so worried about getting the flu? Don't get that part! If you don't feel protected by the flu shot, why are you getting it?
I think you will know the difference between a herx and the flu and if you don't, then so what. Either one sucks!

Any urgent care center or doc's office can do a nasal swab test for type A influenza viruses. Results are available within minutes.
And, you can get this test done within the first 24 hours of getting sick.
If you test positive, then you have the flu. It may be H1N1 or another type A flu since the test cannot tell the difference.
But at least you'll know if you need to take Tamiflu or not.
