I am about to go back on IV Rocephin. Does anyone have links on why we need Actigall with Rocephin? My doctor doesn't want to prescribe it.
Also - I will be on 2 grams a day. Can anyone give me the dose they were on when they formed Gall stones from this drug?
Thanks

Well, I don't have any links, but I'm sure there are some! Try Googling it.
MANY here have had their GB's removed due to being on rocephin. Some of them took Actigall and some didn't.
If it were ME, I'd sure as heck take the Actigall!
I took it for several months when my GB was acting up.. before surgery. It really helped.
Others will be along soon!

It prevents gallstones from forming. Rocephin is very highly biliary excreted.

I had a major gallbladder attack when on 2 g of IV rocephin. I promptly cut out almost ALL fat from my diet. I was on IV for about 9 weeks. I lost a bunch of weight- probably 20 lbs total, but I saved my gallbladder.
Then after IV I pursued acupuncture, herbs and supplements for gallbladder support. Today I can eat anything and I still have my gallbladder.

Lymetoo. How long were you on Rocephin before you had problems? Also what dose were you on?
Thanks, Haley

My daughter (17) is on 2 grams of Rocephin a day and takes Actigall twice a day. She has been on IV Rocephin for seven months now.
Her doctor has her do one dose in the a.m. and one in the p.m., and he said when you split the treatment it is less likely to form gallstones.
We had asked him if we could do the doses back to back and he said absolutely not because it will increase the risk of gallstones.
Just an FYI -- with every three months of Rocephin that she is on she sees an improvement. First improvement she started moving her toes, and the most recent improvement she began to walk after nine months in a wheelchair! We're hoping for another improvement (Christmas miracle?) that will help with her pain and cognitive issues.
Good luck!
Lisa

Wow Lisa that is great news. My 16-yo daughter has been on it for almost a month and is also seeing some improvement. She takes Ursodiol 2x a day to help offset Gall Bladder issues. We do the Rocephin at 9am and 9pm five days a week. She is to take the Urso only on the days she does the ifusions.

Lyme Ed is correct.
Antigal didn't work for me. Got the gallstones that Rocephen causes. Stopped rocephen the stones dissolved on their own.

There's good advice here; I took Rocephin for seven months, but at times was only using 1/2 gram a day. I used Actigal also. No stones.

Thanks for the valuable information. Wow ,Lisa. I'm so happy that your daughter is making that kind of improvement. With your permission, I may copy and paste your note and send it to my doctor (not an LLMD).
I may also IM you.

Yes Rocephin helped me too. And 19 months of anitibiotics. YOU WILL get better. As for the actigall YES it helped me and kept my gallbladder clean! I was on IV for 3 months wish I could have gone longer. I had sensitivity to my legs, numb toes and feet back was tight,I felt like I was incased in cement, had electric shock feelings up and down my legs, dragged my foot and right leg was like jello, had lesions in the t2t3 to the t12 astrophying spinal cord, lesion in brain, mind shot!memory shot, headaches, right eye pain, tight neck, burning shoulders, knee pain, I couldn't walk no balance, knee caps were on fire, couldn't walk up and down stairs felt like I had 100 pounds on each leg,ear and eye sensitivity, twicthing under the skin, floaters in eyes, Heard I had MS by a lot of Neuroligist, coughing, heart fluttering, mood changes, anixety, constipation, saddness, hot flashs, chills ice water feeling going through your vains,TIRED....I went through it all. I had a steroid drip and I thought I was going to die! I had LYME DISEASE. never picked up by Quest lab,. Igenex lab in CA is the best. Have Dr. check b12 level and Mercury and lead. Now I am from 20% to 85 % I still am on Anitibiotics because I got reinfected. and still I hear Lyme Disease it doesn't do that you have MS. Give it time and research. keep positive and find a good Infectious Disease doctor. I am so much better and you can be too. I may not dance again. But at least I can walk! Yes Actigall helped me.I know because when they did the sonogram I was clean. & even prior to IV I had gallstones.
Good luck all PLEASE do NOT give up.You will get better. Everyone responds in their own time. and no your not crazy
