I have been on doxi for about 2.5 months, and for the last 6 weeks have had horrible skin problems on my face only. Wondering if this could be a side effect of the med? ANyone else have this? My skin is painfully dry no matter how much I moisturize, including very chapped lips. My skin is red and inflamed and bumpy. The doctor switched me to a different brand of doxi, but that has not helped. It is awful! I don't know whether to ask to switch to a different abx, or see a dermatologist.I've never had this problem before, so it seems it must be treatment related, or lyme related. Thanks.

I have never taken Doxy but think that you may want to mention this to your doctor immediately in case you are having an allergic reaction.

It COULD be ACA. Is the skin also getting thin? I got ACA (as a herx) when I started on doxy the first time. It went away again with me.

Are you taking plenty of probiotics a few hours away from the doxy?? If not, that could possibly be the cause. Talk to your LLMD about it.

Thanks, Yes, I am taking the probiotics. I stopped the doxy yesterday, after talking to the LLMD. But now the problem is spreading. It looks like there are welts on my eyelids and under my eyes, and it is raw and itchy. It is uncomfortable and upsetting! I am supposed to be going away today for vacation and I don't want to leave the house!

Thank you Peter J. I am hoping it will start to clear since I stopped the doxy. I think it is strange I only have the skin reaction on my face and no where else. How can you tell if it is candida? Do I treat that with anything other than probiotics?

You can treat candida with anti-fungus drugs. But they have many interactions.
Did the skin get really thin also? If that didn't happen, then it's less likely with ACA.

I had hives, rashes and bullseyes all over my body at different times BEFORE I knew I had LD and this was around the times I was on potent ABX for other issues. I was always told it was just hives but I have to wonder now.
When I started Amoxy in the beginning of treating this, occasionally a huge hive would appear on my forehead or leg. Also, another ABX combo I took (cannot remember the combo though) caused huge bullseyes on my thighs that went away in time.
I also went on a strict anticandida diet and haven't had too many problems. Diflucan can help along with a strict diet.
Do talk to your doctor though!

By day 4 off of doxy, my skin cleared 95%. The swelling and blisters around my eyes finaly went down. So I would think it is either a direct reaction, or a herx reaction. If it was yeast, it would not have gone away that fast on it's own, right? But I started bactrim today, and it seems slightly worse already. Direct side effect of bactrim can also be rash, or maybe it really is a herx. I am going to see a dermatologist on Wednesday and maybe she can look at it and tell me if it looks med induced, though she is not lyme literate so I don't know how much help she will be. Still strange that it is only on my face.
