I haven't been on in a long long time, I guess because I was feeling better.
I didn't want to be back in my Lyme mode, so I stayed away.
After I began seeing a new Doc last March, I changed my antibiotics to biaxin and amox 2 x per day.
I have been much better this past 6 mths. Don't get me wrong, I still get many symptoms but some went away, allowing me to have good days.
Over the past 2-3 weeks, everything came back. The symptoms I didn't even know got better, came back. Tingling, panic,coordination problems, brain fog and just the feeling that I can't handle anything and want to stay home and not talk to anyone.
The only difference is they changed my Biaxin generic to another generic manufacturer. Could this really be? I thought the fed gov't regulated the medicaiton, that the amount of the active ingrediant had to be the same... so I don't get it.
The only other thing that I can think of is I got less sleep and didn't work out... but today, I got PLENTY of sleep, worked out and still have the intense tingling.
It either is a complete relapse or the med. I'm waiting on my doc to get back to me, but in the meantime..
What do you think?

Sleep does this to me.
If I ever go 2 or 3 days getting bad sleep i notice my symptoms start to creep up. Especially neurological symptoms.
I'm convinced that if I win the battle with sleep I will have a full recovery.
But that scares me because I suck at sleeping and always have.

I see, but in the past I've gotten little sleep and haven't had this kind of thing happen. Sure, maybe for a day but then it would pass once I got sleep..
Do you think it's possible it could be the change in generic biaxin? Its the same medicaiton just different generic manufacturer

From how I understand it the "active" ingredients are the same, but they could use different
"fillers" or inactive ingredients. Maybe your body is reacting to one of those? The only other thing
I can think of is maybe it's a herx reaction? Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I suppose it could be. Generic still do have to have same active ingredient in them at proper dosage . Typically what usually differs are fillers and impurities (residual traces of other chemical left from drug synthesis chain). In fact I read that at least in some cases those impurities were the ones causing majority of side effects and not the drug itself.
So I wouldnt really think that active dose is not the same -there is no really reason to make "fake" biaxin (its cheap drug).but maybe other generic has other stuff you dont tolerate (maybe even in fillers) But why dont you switch back and see for yourself?

I had this same problem with pain medication. The one I am on now, barely takes the pain away. Well, I ran out early last month and had some old ones from a year ago with the same genetic name and mg. The old one got rid of all of my pain. I was shocked and couldn't understand why the same exact pill worked better. My doctor told me that the manufactors were different and that they put different fillers in the medications. Some keep the pills from absorbing as fast in turn, making it last longer and work better.
All that did was make me mad and I couldn't find a pharmacy to fill it with that certain manufactorer. A friend of mine that works at the pharmacy told me that they buy the cheapest brand. Yes, this is what we are left with. Pills that don't work as well or give us side effects.

I know that with coumadin (blood thinner) and the generic version, warfarin, there is HUGE difference. The coumadin is much more highly regulated and if it says 10mg, you get 10mg of the blood thinner. In the generic it can vary from 3mg to 10mg. To stay regulated I HAVE to take the name brand blood thinner.

From what I understand, the generic only has to be like the original to a certain degree. I don't know that the exact chemical formula of the original is duplicated. Imitrex works great. Its generic seriously sucks to the degree that I had to pay a lot of money for the original to get relief. Seriously, the generic sucked. I think people assume the active ingredient is the same. The truth is, the generic only has to be like the original to a certain degree. There may be a sidegroup chemically (I have an associate degree in science) that is different that could and apparently does make a big difference in some prescriptions. I have noticed a difference in plaquenil and its generic as well but not with as big of a difference as with Imitrex and its generic.
