I was thinking ... would there ever be time it might be a good thing to drink grapefruit juice with medications? Maybe with something like your pain med? I have been liking Grapefruit Juice a lot lately and I just totally forgot about the issue around. I am a little confused though... I also read it helps cancer meds work better !!

I've only read that it contradicts many medications, and greatly reduces the absorption of many chemicals. Doing a google search revels that this juice deactivates a particular enzyme involved in medication absorption and metabolism. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2005/01/050124010803.htm This article from 2005 says that the effects of mixing the juice with some medications can have deadly consequences. This article also has an extensive list of medications that interact with the juice, but that was only in 205, the list is probably longer now. There are thousands of articles on the negative effects of grapefruit juice and medications. Never heard of a good effect from it. Except for the benefits of vitamin C, citrus flavanoids, and grapefruit seed extract, all of which my LLMDmy antibiotics, even many medication pamphlets that come with the drugs warn against such interactions. When I was on Antidepresents I was told the juice has particularly negative effects with Zoloft. Please be careful. If you insist on taking these in combination, you definitely need do do some research first. Even if your drugs have not been studied with grapefruit juice, it still could be dangerous or may simply greatly reduce the absorption of your treatment.

If you keep on researching and reading you can also find many articles that say " grapefruit increases drug absorption "http://www.collegesportsscholarships.com/grapefruit-drugs.htm Therefore upon further reading I am finding it is certain drugs it can increase and certain drugs it can decrease. Now just to find a list.??http://www.carilionclinic.org/Carilion/P09495

I have heard of people using grapefruit juice with the herb artemisinin or artemisia (not sure which one this person was using), to make the art more powerful. They were either using the juice to make the art hit you all at once, or to hit you more slowly, and stay in the body longer (can't remember which one). This is something I would do with caution though. It is kind of a risky thing to do, and you don't want to hurt your liver.

Ok. Here is an article that gives somewhat of a list of what the grapefruit juice will increase potency and a list of which ones it decreases. There is a chart and an article. From what I am reading there is an increase in studies and the list is getting longer of what it affects and how. Very interesting and good to know. https://secure.pharmacytimes.com/lessons/200303-02.asp
