what effects can this drug cause if you have lyme?

Well anti-depressants in general suppress your immune system.

I, personally, will never take an anti-depressant.

I've had some bad herxs and felt pretty low before. But I just won't take that crap.

Like taping a band aid to the real problem.

Look into Omega3, acetylcholine, immune boosting stuff, oxygen, exercise

There is a recent lengthy discussion about antidepressants here:

These drugs are promoted big-time by psychiatrists paid off $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ by the drug industry.

Did you schedule an appointment with the doctor in Manila that BigStan referred you to?

It's best to get a clinical evaluation. You don't know that you have lyme but if you do, chemicals really don't always react the same in someone with lyme as they do in the non-lyme population.

There can be quite a boomerang effect. It's best to figure out what is wrong first and then see what the doctor has to say. Treating the cause of the symptoms will often resolve the symptoms.

Nutritional support, too, can help to relieve symptoms.

My sister is on the highest dosage of Prozac allowed.

She does NOT have neuro lyme, but does have severe osteoarthritis from lyme.

Prozac MIGHT have protected her brain.

I know of two lyme patients who were on Wellbutrin and did much better mentally and emotionally from taking it. The doctor who prescribes them believes if you are depressed your healing will be slowed down.

I have no opinion on this one way or the other since I haven't taken anti depressants. But I did notice that both of these patients who took Wellbutrin did better emotionally and mentally while they were on it.

I personally couldn't tolerate anti-depressants (SSRIs or SNRIs), however, I am not depressed. I have a severe amount of anxiety (or so they call it) that causes panic-like episodes where I am convinced I'm about to die. However, I have made huge progress in the past couple weeks and I think the Lyme "anxiety" is being erased. Anti-depressants may help some people here with depression or anxiety symptoms, but not me. 5-HTP is supposed to be a good natural alternative to anti-depressants, but I don't personally take it. I believe it's important to get your anxiety and depression symptoms under control (especially if severe), and it's important to get counseling and see a psychiatrist if you need it.

Now, I was taking a pretty large amount of tranquilizers (Ativan and Klonopin together) to control these episodes. It has worked well, and now I am taking less than half the amount I was taking after my first herx. I'm optimistic that I can soon go off this stuff completely, but it is very addictive stuff, so I have to take it slow. It's not the kind of drug you want to take on a regular basis if you don't absolutely need it, but if your main issue is anxiety/panic, it can work very well to mask those symptoms.
