The more acidic what's in the can, the worse off you are with BPA. This endrocrinologist says he won't eat canned tomatoes:

I just called Campbell's customer input and information line and told them I wont be buying their products anymore unless they do something about this.

Another finding of poisons in our daily lives was published today:

Update: Also called Conagra Foods, General Mills, Hormel and several other companies.

Told them I'd be happy to buy their products if they were sold in a jar instead or were simply labeled BPA free.

Thanks for this post emla.

From consumer reports:
"Now Consumer Reports' latest tests of canned foods, including soups, juice, tuna, and green beans, have found that almost all of the 19 name-brand foods we tested contain some BPA. The canned organic foods we tested did not always have lower BPA levels than nonorganic brands of similar foods analyzed. We even found the chemical in some products in cans that were labeled "BPA-free."

Stuff in glass jars would be safer, but they seem to phasing out glass in favor of plastic. It is impossible now to find vegetable oils or mayo in glass containers. Fats hold toxins just like other foods.

When I buy vegetable oil, mayo, or juice in plastic container, it is transferred immediately into glass containers at home. Guess I am a real crank now.

Olive oil is sold in glass or metal.

Spectrum brands mayonnaise is in glass.
