I posted this at LymeFriends, but didn't get any responses, so I'm hoping some here can help. I would like to put these to use ASP.
Gadget, my service dog, died of cancer on Thursday. I was giving him a huge number of herbs and supplements, most of which were immune boosters.
Now I'm going to offer many of them to other dogs with cancer, but I know a bunch of them are also good for preventing OR treating Lyme.
I'm too sick and grief-stricken to be able to try to wade through Curing Lyme. I found it difficult enough when I was only exhausted and Lyme-brained.
I'd like to save the preventatives for my partner and my future puppy.
I'd like to save those that work for treatment, for me.
I don't do well with tinctures. I got worse on the Cowden protocol, so these are mostly dried herbs/capsules.
Which herbs are good for Lyme *prevention,* versus which are good for *existing infection* (with borrelia, babesia, and bartonella)??
Also, if you don't think any of them are useful for either prevention OR treatment, that's useful, too.
I'm just going to list a bunch of those I have on hand. I don't know which are good for what, and maybe some of them aren't good for Lyme at all?
Green Tea extract Pycnogenol Andrographis Astragalus Cat's Claw Grape Seed extract SAMe
If there are others you'd like to suggest, specifically for Lyme prevention or treatment, but NOT for things like liver detox or other general maintenance of a sick person, that'd be helpful, too. (I'm already on as many health maintenance, liver-support, etc., supplements as I can handle.)

What you mean, prevention? In case you have no lyme, to prevent catching lyme?? Is this your question?
Green tea is not specific for lyme. Just general antioxidant.

I want preventatives for my partner and for when I get a puppy, because Lyme is epidemic in dogs in this area, too.
And I want treatments for me, because I'm already multiply infect with Lyme & cos.

i'm not sure about astragalus for people with chronic lyme -- it seems it might be contraindicated? buhner said something about this in his book.. it's definitely a good thing to take for prevention, though.
cat's claw and andrographis treat lyme. i'm unsure about the others.

Recently someone posted a link in this forum to a study that showed green tea increased the effectiveness of antibiotics.

Astragalus is not totally contraindicated, in my opinion. Buhner said so, based on the studies he had about Th1 and Th2 dominance for chronic lyme sufferers.
Not all chronic lyme sufferers are Th2. Some are, some are Th1.
Besides, if you get reinfected, he recommends to add astragalus, even if you are a chronic sufferer.
I used energetic tests and DID use astragalus during my chronic lyme, with or without reinfection. Not always though, as I kept rotating herbs (except for cats claw that tested almost all the time).
It was helpful, specially because it was mild compared to the others (andro, cats claw, jap knotweed, all 3 were very strong for me). So I did enjoy my astragalus time!
Astragalus is a very mild herb, that children EAT in China regularly. It is food in China. My daughter also took it, here and then.
