My 16 YO daughter has done great with Rocephin, until yesterday (beginning of week 8) when we discovered her Gall Bladder is full of stones. It was clear before she started, so we can acurately say it was caused by the Rocephin, even though she was on Ursodiol the entire time.
Of course we stopped Rocephin, and actually the plan was to end it this week anyway, we just did it a week early.
Appointment with doctor on Tuesday, but just wondering if anyone has experienced the stones disolving on their own after Rocephin is discontinued? Just wonering if it ever happens, or if we shouldn't prolong things if it will eventually need to come out anyway.

Am in the same boat but I won't have the gallbladder out unless it is life threatening to keep it in. I discontinued the drug and latest ultrasound shows sludge remaining so I am looking into doing a gallbladder cleanse to get rid of it.
This is the second time it has happened to me and feel I should have had more frequent unltasounds to prevent it from developing further.

i'm with you. i had mine taken out and it's been the worst decision of my life.
i'm left with chronic ibs symptoms and periodic pancreas problems.

Was she not on Actigall? If not, why not! Anytime you take Rocephin you need to be on that to prevent this. Try a gallbladder flush...I'd see if they go away on their own before I'd have surgery. Good lord.

Was she infusing 7 days a week? What dosage was she on? I'm just curious. I infuse 5 days a week 2 gms a day.

Actigall (brand name) is the same as Ursodiol (generic).

Do a search for a liver/gall bladder flush, ie, like the Hulda Clark one. Do that, and, you can do another one two weeks later. Keep doing them until all the stones are out. You don't need to have her gall bladder out! This works well and painlessly, and it costs pennies!
When I was on rocephin, even though I was taking Actigall, I got nausea from gall bladder sludging. But I did a flush before I started, and did more later, and then I was fine. It's an important tool to have and use.

She infused 2x day. Five days on two days off. She was also taking Milk Thisle.

Her PCP spoke to a specialist who does a procedure where they go in the bile duct to remove the sludge/stones and "suck' it out, while leaving the gall bladder. It is supposed to be for something like this where we know she had no stones prior to Rocephin, so the risk of them returning is low.
He also had her increase the Urso (double what she was taking) for 10 days and will do another Ultrasound at that time to see how it looks.
Definitely watching for signs of inflamation and he said it can happen quickly.

Look up the Lemon Olive Oil drink that I posted about. You can do a search. That's resolved a lot of people's issues when it came to this.
Let us know how things go. Maybe if she's fortunate, it will resolve itself, but either way this tool is highly useful and could prevent even having to have a procedure.
