one of my sisters has this real bad. and the way i'm feeling i may have it too.
i'm still having pretty bad abdominal pain. today i've had diahhrea which was all mucous. really just stringy strands of mucous and orange water. the cramping and pain was enough to almost make me cry. i had bad chills and shaking and at one point, i really thought i was going to pass out.
he was at the airport so i just prayed i could make it through.
i'm almost down 8 pounds but don't want to loose this way.
how do some of you deal with these severe gastro issues?
i'm thinking maybe it's the biaxin and my colon is just sterilized or could be this diverticulitis. just winging it.
have any of you had these symptoms? this did come on pretty suddenly when i got that swine flu.

My aunt has it and says it is very painful. She explained that pouches are formed in the colon and they sometimes get inflammed or infected. When hers acts up, she is in severe pain that puts her in bed.

You may also want to get checked for ulcerative colitis. I had colitis without the ulcers. Colitis is swelling of the colon. I was in a lot of pain.

I am very concerned about you.
I have friends with this illness. One just got out of the hospital (had to have surgery) and one is in there now for it.
If it is diverticulitis, it is nothing to mess with. It can be fatal. Here is a list of symptoms:
*pain in the abdomen, usually in the lower left side;
*bleeding, bright red or maroon blood may appear in the toilet, on toilet paper, or in the stool. Bleeding is often mild and usually stops by itself; however, it can become severe;
*fever;
*nausea;
*vomiting;
*chills; and
*constipation (less often, diarrhea).
If diverticulitis is not treated promptly it can develop some very serious complications. A complication is suggested by any of the following symptoms:
*worsening abdominal pain;
*persistent fever;
*vomiting (no food or liquid can be tolerated);
*constipation for an extended period of time;
*burning or pain during urination; and
*bleeding from the rectum.

Everyone does not have bleeding. Or, it can begin later. Pain generally on the left side of the lower abdomen is the key symptom.
You don't have to have all the symptoms. You need to get to a doctor and get a diagnosis. It could mean your life if let go too long. Don't want to scare you. You can read this on the internet yourself.

well dang, i've got the pain thing, no bleeding, no burning or pain during urination, no fever, no vomiting.
had chills once. mine started out at lower left, moved to middle under navel and now just entire lower abdominal area is tender and sore.
oh, just noticed, the don't have to have thing. egads....i'll make an appt today. course with this guy it could be months.
thanks for listing all that tho. i'm on liquids and have already lost about 8 pounds.

If it gets worse, the doctor's office will tell you to go to the ER. That's what happened to both of my friends.
One was given antibiotics at home for a week and when things did not clear up was told to go to the ER. She was admitted and is being given IV antibiotics now. She is getting worse, however.
I have read that about 50% of people with an attack of diverticulitis required a hospital admission to clear up the attack.
I have also read that this condition seems to run in families.
