Everyone refers to bartonella although reading on general treatments on the internat it states each Bartonella responds to very different AB's

(example it says Quintana gentamycin/Doxy & Henselae Rifabutin/Doxy)

so can anyone confirm what are the treatments within the Lyme community for:-

Bartonella Quintana

Or

Bartonella Henselae

As it seems most LLMD's are saying Quinolines or Rifampin groups when everything I read on medical journals says different

Up for more responses.

It seems most docs are using Rifampin/doxy and Levaquin. Also Zith/Rifampin.

What do journals say differently?

I can't promise this.. but I believe I heard you can be tested to see which antibiotic would work with the strain you have?

Again.. I am VERY unsure about this.. but it is something you might want to check out or at least look out for.

How I interpreted it, was that Rifampin and Levaquin are for "BLO," which may or may not actually be true bartonella.

I believe I got that from Burrascano's guidelines.

The symptoms of Bartonella and BLO are supposedly pretty similar. That's why it's called "bartonella like organism."

I think Zithromax also treats bartonella henselae, and perhaps Bactrim DS too. If you type bartonella into Wikipedia, you'll probably see a list of drugs.

I may be wrong, but I get the sense that it is only a minority of Lyme patients that actually test positive for a bartonella species. It's hard to know who actually has bart q or h, and who has BLO, whatever that ends up being.

There are no standards at the present to test and report which antibiotics resond to any Bartonella strains.

There are many other bacteria that for one reason or another, the lab cannot test anitibiotics for susceptibilities.

If/when labs are able to do this for Bart, it will be a huge breakthrough. I believe Galaxy Diagnostics is working on it.
