I have been eating about two cloves of raw garlic a day and sometimes more if I add cooked garlic to veggies, etc. I am wondering if this is one of the things keeping yeast at bay in me, even though I do follow a good diet.

My wife even set up a special air freshener in our bedroom due to my garlic odor, LOL. But, she understands.

I founfd this:
Herbs that may be helpful: Garlic has demonstrated significant antifungal activity against C. albicans in both animal and test tube studies.17 18 19 Greater anti-Candida activity has resulted from exposing Candida to garlic, than to nystatin--the most common prescription drug used to fight Candida.20 No clinical studies of garlic in the treatment of candidiasis have yet been conducted. However, some doctors suggest an intake equal to approximately one clove (4 grams) of fresh garlic per day; this would equal consumption of a garlic tablet that provides a total allicin potential of 4,000 to 5,000 mcg.

Yeah, I'd be doing the air freshener too! You realize that if that doesn't work, the next step is you'll be sleeping on the sofa. LOL! Kidding! (Well, maybe not...)

my husband and I both eat a LOT of garlic. And we when we juice raw fruits and vegetables, we thrown in raw garlic as well.

we may stink, but since we're both eating it, we don't notice each other stinking, lol.

I've been on abx for nearly a year and him 9 mo and neither of us have had major issues w/ yeast. We also follow a low carb/low sugar diet.

I've done the freeze-dried garlic pills before for a time. Taking up to almost 7 or so pills of them. I remember them helping me feel somewhat better while I was taking them.

I have heard none of the pills on the market have the same effects as the real thing. You have to create the odor to activate the alicin.

I think people should clarify when people say low carb. We should avoid refined carbs, junk, flours, etc. Good, whole intact carbs are fine. You NEED those to also feed the good bacteria.

My LLMD just told me yesterday that you have to crush up the garlic before eating it to get the full effect.

I had never heard that before now. Just thought I'd share!

I don't know where you've heard that it has to be fresh garlic? Many, many, many people take the organic freeze-dried garlic in capsule form. It's fine in that form, as long as you eat a big meal before you take them. Do some searches on here.

And no, you don't have to stink for that to mean it's working?!

What about powdered garlic that you use in your food? Do you get any benefit from it? The powdered garlic I buy is very strong. So seems there would be at least some benefits from it as well.

Powdered garlic loses it allicin content.

I suspect fresh garlic is a great choice if you crush and slice it finely wait a few minutes and eat it raw, chewing it. That to me is maximum effect. I haven't had raw garlic in awhile, but if you chew it, chew it with something to lower the burning.

Freeze dried garlic is great too, but I suspect there is value in fresh because your including the mouth and the esophagus in processing the allicin.

Eat a clove with a small slice of apple and parsely. Apple to lower the burning and parsely to tone down the odor.

Yep, fresh garlic, cut and crushed is the best approach. No reason for me to do research...I already know the answer. In talking to various nutritionists and reading through many of my books, they all say fresh is best, best obsorbed in its natural state by the body.

With freeze dried do you keep it in the freezer?
The alicin deteriorates quickly so you have about 1 hour to eat it. I eat it with food and sometimes on an empty stomach.

The medicinal properties of fresh garlic have been known for centuries and it has been the mainstay `anti-infective'of numerous civilications through the ages.

The problem that has arisen in presenting garlic as a supplement is the inherent instability of the initial active substance, allicin, which is created when a clove of garlic is crushed.

Allicin is not found, as such, within the garlic clove, instead, when the clove is crushed, allicin is formed instantaneously from the interaction of an enzyme called alliinase on a precursor of allicin called alliin.

By selecting the highest quality of garlic cloves, rich in alliin and alliinase, and then gently freeze-drying them, a concentrated powder is produced which only releases the prime active allicin component when ingested and rehydrated, i.e. all of the allicin is released within the gastrointestinal tract. This is exactly how the highest possible potency garlic is presented as a concentrate with all of the active components intact,

This way it is an active concentrate of freeze-dried garlic rich in alliin and alliinase, which releases high levels of allicin directly in the gut when ingested and rehydrated.

We take the freeze dried garlic after the last bite of the meal.

I took 12 freeze-dried garlic capsules for many months. It caused my major shift into wellness.

You fill find many informative posts about Garlic with my name. I will post what I find here in my files.

Take care and d o o o o take garlic. (avoid non-organic garlic, especially from China: Garlic picks up all the toxic metals in its surroundings when it is grown without precautions
You want to get the toxins out of your body --- rather than pick up more! And you cannot get rid of the bugs if you are metal toxic - it simply doesn't happen.)

Thanks GiGi, all i know is what I read in my human nutrition books and from talking with nutritionists that nothing is better than a real garlic clove crushed. It is the best way for the body to absorb and get the benefits. You are taking a chance with any supplement, period...unfortunately. You are trusting the company that produced the supplement and trusting they used proper storage.

Garlic is very popular in russia. Personally I could never stand it to eat more than a few cloves (this is tiny amount - enthusiasts eat 2-3 roots/day)

So If I ever get back eating it would be pills!

I've tried freeze dried organic garlic but it upsets my stomach. I really want to take this as I know I would benefit from it so much, especially since I don't do antibiotics anymore. Wish there was I way my stomach could handle it.

My LLMD says fresh, crushed garlic is best and that capsules are a waste of money.
Also, if it upsets your stomach, crush it and pour olive oil over it then take it. That will help your tummy to handle it.
