It has absolutely no sides for me. But I tolerate sulpha anything well. DMSA is sulpha based as well
As about working well - I dont think it has signficant efficiency as a mono therapy drug. Its great combo abx to used with something else, as it has very little sides if you not allergic and mild on gut flora

Boy, that's a good question and I'm absolutely drawing a blank at the moment. You can Google it, or 'coltman' is real knowledgeable; maybe he'll come back to this thread with an answer.

got me to remission with rifampin. Had to stop due to ankle pain, then the c diff came after stopping.
great drug according to my LLMD.

I took this drug along with mepron to hit babs. I really liked this med because you can use it to treat bart and babs at the same time.

The two drugs I had the hugest reaction to was Bactrim DS and Rifampin. Hmmm..

I forgot to add that all my bart symptoms came back after stopping. Short lived remission. LLMD thinks I'm dealing with BLO.

If you try Bactrim and seem to have an allergic reaction to it,
wait and try again. You might not be allergic on the second try.
That's what happened to me, and i'm still on Bactrim.
Once i took 5 days of Bactrim and got a few red pimples on torso, so the Dr said to stop it, and then i kept telling people i was allergic to Bactrim, though not really too sure about that.
Then one summer i read in the newspaper some advice from an MD: he said that people who are allergic to Bactrim the first time, should try again, because they may not be allergic on the second try. That's exactly my case, and i've been on Bactrim ever since.

Be careful IMO about Bactrim if you have had an allergic reaction to it. Might want to look up Steven Johnson's syndrome too regarding this med.
I had an allergic reaction the first time I took it years ago. I was extremely red (like a harsh sunburn) all over my entire body after 3 days. I discontinued it and took lots of Benadryl to try and counter act some of the effects (per the urgent care Dr).
About a year ago I tried a challenge test with an allergist in the office with this same abx. My LLMD wanted to see if I was really allergic to it. I was ok in the office but after a few hours when I got home I had an extreme reaction. I was violently ill and had to call for help. It lasted 4-5 days even after discontinuing it that first day. I do not think this was a herx either.

Bactrim got me past a lot of symptoms, and I made huge progress with this med.
If you are not allergic to it - it's excellent.

Septra.
Same thing as Bactrim.
Also the generic name is sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim.
