Just got back from the Dr and he told me that an ultrasound revealed a "large" nodule in/on my thyroid gland. Unfortunately it's NOT a cyst, it's a mass. 3 cm x 2 cm
He said that there is no way it's from Lyme. Is he right? Do I possibly have Lyme on top of this? Is this a common occurrence among people with Lyme?

Brian, I don't think that I would associate it with lyme until you have additional tests. Thyroid problems are common without lyme disease.
Are you experiencing any symptoms?
Thyroid symptoms can be wide ranging and can seem like other ailments at times.
Rule out the big "C" first and then you can test for the big "L" later.
Did your doc recommend further testing?

I had mine out about 2 years before I found Lyme. So it is possible it effected it-made it a lot
worse-but I had thyroid trouble long before I had Lyme. But when I had it out it seemed to be
all down hill from there. So I really don't know and may be your best bet to find a great endo who
can determine by biopsy if it is actual infection of borrelia causing the nodule or not related at
all. My endo and surgeon wanted it all out as it was so large they could not justify risking
cancers. But if I had known that 3 years down the road I would be disabled with Lyme I might not
have been so quick to agree. So I see where you are coming from and what you first have to find
out what it is. By the way I would never do a scan. To determine hot cold warm There are better options.

Thanks for the replies; I'm having a biopsy done on Tuesday.
Maybe it's been my thyroid and not Lyme. Thyroid problems fit most of my symptoms, but not all. . .

The majority of thyroid masses are benign.
Have you been treated for thyroid disease? If so, and your thyroid hormone levels are normal, then your symptoms most likely are the lyme, not the thyroid.

I have not been treated for thyroid disease, and my endo says that the nodule is not causing my symptoms because thyroid function looks "normal".
Some of my symptoms include:(very) low testosterone, low tsh, low lh and my testicles hurt (sorry!), flushed face, joint pain, low alcohol tolerance, dizziness, burning sensations on various parts of my body, neck cracking/creaking, slightly blurry vision, eyelid twitching, poor short term memory, confusion, can't think of the right word at times. . .

Lyme and crew will dysregulate your body. For instance all the symptoms you've mentioned end up mineral imbalances of some kind or another. According to Dr. K., 80% of lymies are zinc deficient. Most lymies have congested livers and gall bladders either from lyme or long term ABX. Do some research about issues associated with a congested liver and body temperature. Get a basal thermometer, before getting out of bed from sleeping place under your armpit until you get a reading. If it is under 98.2, you have issues -- I won't call it thyroid issues, but issues with metabolism.
Before you supplement see a practioner.

Thyroid nodules are common and usually nothing to worry about. I have a bunch of them. If you take thyroid medication, even though your function is normal, it will prevent the nodule from growing further. You can safely be on and off thyroid medication so it is nothing to worry about. If you decide to quit, your thyroid just starts producing what you need. Thyroid nodules rarely are cancerous but even when it is, it is one of the easiest cancers to treat and cure because it grows so slow. Don't worry.

I have an appointment with a Lyme specialist on the 23rd. So far, beside the nodule on my thyroid, no one knows what's wrong with me. Two CT scans, and MRI, and enough blood to fill a bathtub, and still no answers.
The guy I'm seeing next week does use the the good lab (is it Igenex?) and he came highly recommended.
