I have been detoxing over the past few days, and it is overwhelming. My protocol has been:

blended vegetable soup (Hippocrates-type soup, see youtube)
juicing
ahem, coffee enemas
Burdock
Milk Thistle
Plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables
No or very few starches

I am all for a good healing crisis, but I am the primary parent of a 3-year-old, work half time, and try to keep a decent house with nutritious meals for all, so I need to stay on my game.

Can you recommend a slower but effective way to detox?

I used to be able to rock a two week juice fast no sweat. But I am so overladen with antibiotics and dead guys at this point, I need to take it easier.

I almost fainted dead away in the library tonight, and am tingling all over. It's just getting weird.

Thank you in advance for any information!

p.s. I will be away from my computer until later tomorrow afternoon, so there will be a delay in my responses.

You answered you're own question. Just take it slower.

Cut back on doing it all at once.

If I eat few starches, I feel like garbage, maybe it's as simple as eating some potato or oatmeal.

Keebler told us it's dangerous for people with porphyria to cut out starches. Many Lymies have one form of porphyria or another (I have pyroluria).

You also might try adding in a binder - charcoal, chlorella, etc.

Okay, I'm lyme brained, but you can de-tox to fast?

I am interested because I was juicing 4 or 5x a week for a while; not thinking of it as detox. Just a way to get better nutrition into my body.

Does juicing help with de-tox?

Seems it made me feel better, but I slowed down because I was having throat issues and trying to work out the cause.

I agree. I might add some of those electrolyte replacement mixes just to see if that helped also.

There is no detoxing without proteins. As you have die-off, you are mobilizing toxic metals and chemicals, and unless you bring in some proteins, they remain afloat. If you have lived on this earth for any length of time ---- you are heavy metal toxic; people who get trapped with Lyme, are even more toxic from heavy metals and chemicals.

If you have detox problems, check out the Allergie Immun thread and their site. Most people who cannot get rid of the toxins are allergic to them; that means the immune system no longer or never did recognize them as toxins and cannot release them. www.allergie-immun.de/English

Vegetables and fruits are okay for a cleansing diet, but not for detoxing heavy metals and chemicals - a major underlying problem in most chronic disease.

Wishing you the best. Take care.

Thank you, GIGI, that makes a lot of sense! I have a big history of heavy metals exposure. I'll try to research the allergie immun link. The link is down, but I will search elsewhere.

Pinelady, thanks. I did feel a bit wiped out, and that might help.

Sutherngrl, that's what I am trying to find out. Juicing is great, I think, when on a normal healthy diet. As far as just juicing, I think that's out of the picture for me at this point! Have you been able to get back to the juicing, or are you still holding off because of the throat issues?

Sixgoofykids, I think you are right. I have been adding in some light starches: cooked grains and baked potatoes, to calm things down. I over did it yesterday, and felt worse than ever, but just did a small amount today, and it seemed to help a lot.

I'll try the charcoal. I always forget about that stuff. Thanks for your great suggestions.

canefan17, you are totally right. But I am trying to find that balancing point between healthy fasting and just a regular ol' healthy diet.

I have been eating healthy for years, and it has kept me from falling to a million pieces. But it hasn't really brought me very far ahead in the game, so I really want to push it a bit. I guess I just need to settle for something less extreme than what I was doing.

Thanks all, and I'll keep you posted if anything works out that might help others on the board.

Mazou, I never just juiced. It was just added in to my regular diet. But I think it is an awesome way to add lots of needed nutrients into our bodies.

And yes, I actually juiced 2x this week. Going to ease back into it and see what happens. Long story as to why I think it could be causing throat issues. So far so good!

sutherngrl, glad to hear you are getting back to it. You are right, it's a great way to get extra nutrients! I love it.

I have a juicer that was made before they Berlin wall fell...like it says product of W. Germany on it. It's difficult to use, so i don't juice.

I do take a lot of chlorella for detox and burbur and straight bentonite (blech), but i keep hearing about charcoal too.

LizaLu, I would love to see that juicer. It must be really cool! I took bentonite once and was completely turned off. Do you have a secret for getting it down?

I know it is recommended by the Klinhardt protocol.
