I have been on IV claforan for 2 1/2 weeks now.
Prior to that i was on 5 weeks of IM claforan.
My question is if anyone has taken this med how long did it take to start feeling better.

I am only feeling worse and worse.
The LLMD had me go off the meds for a couple of days, thinking that when the herx passed i would feel better and would go back on the IV.

Well i have been off of them since Monday and i still feel terrible. Really do not feel much different on them or off of them at ths time.

What do you do in this situation?
Do you keep going with the same med (i know i have not been on the IV very long)?

I feel terrible during and after each treatment.
I have not been able to drive for like 6 months...making me crazy.

I feel soooo sick and do not get a break from it.

I am always upbeat and try to keep a positive attitude but this is getting harder and harder to do that.

Any ideas?

i had the same reaction to iv claforan felt bad during and after treatment, brain fog and a little dizzy also i was really! fatigued and lost all my stamina that i gained on bicillin

i just kept waiting for it to let up, and turn around but no luck, then my llmd switched me to iv roceph and made a big improvement in the fog and i got my clearhead and my stamina back.

if you do try the roc make sure you get on actigall to go easy on the gall bladder

good luck
Scott

I have tried rocephin last year when i had a picc then...but was only able to keep it for 8 weeks. That meds did not seem to do much for me either.

I am getting kinda desparate to find something that helps.
Back to the treatments tonight so i sure hope that it turns around for me.
Scott thanks for the info.

I have taken one week of IM Clafaron twice per day. I have felt better this week than I've felt in 11 years (I pray it lasts). My mind is clearer, I feel more like my old self, and my energy has improved.

But, because of all the sticks my PCP is concerned I could get hip damage and has agreed if my LLMD will issue orders for a PICC line he will follow me on Rocephin and order home health to come again to help hubby and I learn to administer the IV ourself.

We had such a hassle with our insurance company, Aetna, on letting home health come give the first few shots of Clafaron. This is all new to us.

Do you take anything for pain, a narcotic? I take Oxymorphone and haven't noticed the herxes, probably because the Oxymor is masking the pain.

Sending prayers and good wishes your way.

Lady
