Did you talk to your doctor about it?
Doxy is one of the tetracycline family that also includes tetracycline and minocycline. I believe all are pretty effective at treating early lyme. For later stages of lyme, doxy is 5 times more fat soluble and penetrates to places tetracycline won't, such as across the blood brain barrier. Minocycline is twice as soluble as doxy, but has additional side effects.
There are a bunch of other abx that can be prescribed; amoxycillin is the traditional "other" choice for early lyme (other than doxy). The drawback to it is that the doses must be taken on time to keep the blood level high enough to keep lyme from replicating. You can take doxy once a day (twice is more common) but have to take amoxycillin every 8 hours.
