Is it possible to have bartonella without a bart rash?
Posted by David Miller (Member # 21583) on :
Given that there are 19 strains of bartonella, which may or may not include all the "BLO" infections ticks carry, and that bart seems to have at least two major types of rashes, I'd guess it's entirely possible.
That's just a guess. Unfortunately, a lot of work with bart is guesswork:(

I don't have a rash either.

I never did, but have all other symptoms.

No rash either with Bart.

Yes- I have all the other bart symptoms quite badly, but I never had a rash. Luckily, as I said, my symptoms were bad enough it wasn't difficult for my doctor to clinically diagnose me.

Also, I was having the symptoms of Bart and it was much later that I started having rashes and the the little bumpy pimple-like bart bumps. Additionally, the bart rashes may appear and disappear quickly so that you had them but didn't notice them. The worst looking Bart rash I had I didn't get a photo of because it appeared out of nowhere and within about 3 hours there was no sign of it and it was the largest rash i ever noticed. And many people DO have the rash but fail to recognize it as such for various reasons. Robin

Actually the LLMD I saw told me there are over 200 strains of bart. They can be very different. Cat scratch has the typical scratch like marks and I never had that. I do have some of the less noticeable skin findings such as pea size brown spots resembling age spots, pin head size blood blisters and papules.

"Pimple like bart bumps"....do they look like measles? I get large areas like this on my shins, along with the classic heel/foot pain and shin pain.

Hey Snailhead, not sure if I remember exactly what measles look like, but yes, I am thinking right I think they could look like measles.
The way I describe them are they look like pimples but never come to a full head like a pimple and if you did try to squeaze it or pop it no pus would come out. Mine itch and I scratch them and so sometimes they get little scabs on them. Evidently they are more common on the upper body but appear on the lower body as well. I personally have had them on my upper and lower arms, my face, around the hairline, on my abdomen and back. Mine are usually in low numbers, you know, one here, one there, sometimes they are clustered a few together. Robin

Snailhead, did you get the foot pain? I've been getting weird heel pain lately. Almost like bone pain... What else besides Bart would cause it?

Robin how is your treatment with the Deseret going?
Posted by Beachinit (Member # 21040) on :
My Bart related skin problems:
Follicular pimple like bumps around hair and beard line, also upper shoulder area. Not sure if from Bart or from yeast/tinea. Some itch. I use white vinegar/ rubbing alcohol for itch followed by clotrimazole. Helps for most areas. Also more prone to eczema than before.
Keeping a thick skin,
Beachinit.

I've never had the "typical stretch marks rash". But I know all about the little pimple things that erupt into one largest festered sore.
I also know the bright red bumpy rash that appear in clusters. I also have the petcheia type rash that starts as flat red bumps on top layer of skin and then go into the skin and remain reddish and fade to brown. These have never gone away for me and a hot shower/bath will make the thousands show all over my body.

Nefferdun, Do you have any reference articles on Bart and brown spots? I'm seeing my llmd today and would like to mention it. My thighs are covered in the pea size brown spots which is a new thing.
Interesting that I've just recently been treating for bart.
Thanks for your help.

Supposedly a dr. whose name shouldn't be mentioned here, talked about these brown spots. I got one too.
Posted by imagine2 (Member # 3136) on :
Hi Kadee, Are the brown spots actually bart under the surface of the skin?
Posted by cactus (Member # 7347) on :
I didn't know the follicular bumps could be bart related. Interesting.
I never had a typical stretch mark type rash until I started Levaquin.
A few weeks into the Levaquin, the marks appeared.
They disappeared slowly, as I continued bart treatment.

imagine2,
the skin itself got brown. It's not under the skin.
