For those of you familiar with the coxsackie virus test I am hoping you can help me.

My results came back unreportable due to "anti-complementary activity"

The lab gives more info in saying that this result came s back when "the patient serum itself contains something that is fixing the complement-usually imune complexes present in the patient's serum due to an auto immune disease"

I am being treated for lyme. Currently on tatracycline. Went to see an ID doc to rule out viral illnesses and am currently trying to get info on this result.

Any of you well versed in this kinf of thing?

Can antibiotics trigger an autoimmune disorder?

Would you consider lyme an autoimmune disorder?

Nope...haven't heard of it. Sorry I can't be of more help. Do try to get tested at ARUP lab though for coxsackie.

And if you haven't been tested for auto-immune diseases, it seems like that may be in order.

Best, Timaca

The results for the coxsackie A anitbodies actually read, "results uninterpretable due to anti-complimentary and anti-tissue activity" (with the explanation as in my first post)

I have been tested for auto-immune disorders (prior to starting antibiotics) nothing came up, no ANA or elevated SED. My lyme doc was quite impressed with the extensive work up I had.

Is ARUP better than FOCUS diagnostics?

Yes, ARUP is best for testing coxsackie. I do use Focus for all my other infectious pathogen testing.

See: http://www.enterovirusfoundation.org/chronicinfections.shtml

Scroll down until you read the part about ARUP. ARUP caught the coxsackie infection in me. Focus did not.

Best, Timaca
