My children's LLMD says that rifampin needs to be taken with another bart drug such as zith, biaxin or bactrim. Just wondering if anyone had success with it without taking these other drugs.
If so, what was your protocol?
Thanks,

I'm taking it with doxy 400 mg with good results. Also took with Ceftin 1000mg and that rocked my boxers.

Zithromax. 500mgs a day. Cleared my head completely.

I used it with 500 zithro for three months and then switched to zithro/bactrim ds. It was pretty rough as the side effects can be similar to the disease. I felt the most benefit when I got off of it.

- If the side-effects seem too much -- for anyone on the KPU protocol (or with any other type of porphyria), it's good to first cross search at Google: rifampin, porphyria
If taken, certain specific liver support should be in place to help keep porphyrins from becoming to elevated. The right kind of liver support can make the difference in being able to tolerate it or not.

Good luck in their treatment.

Keebler, what is the recommendation for liver support in this case?
