We recently ordered a Sleep Number bed and the chemical smell is awful. It is literally making us sick. The smell has permeated one end of our house. We moved the beds to the garage and are waiting for them to be picked up.
Does anyone know of a bed that is chemical, and odor free? I, my son and daughter are all chemcially sensitive and cannot tolerate the smells.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, Sleep Number used to not use all those chemicals and as a result their beds had mold problems.
Anyway, I ended up with an organic latex bed. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!!!
BTW, the beds at the guest house in Germany are latex. I don't know if you looked under them, but they have wooden slats instead of box springs .... that's what mine has. Mine is a little different than theirs because it has springs in it as well. You can get the latex in different levels of softness.

Could you tell me the brand and where you purchased the bed? We were also told to avoid beds with metal in them because they can cause problems with EMFS (that's why be bought the Sleep Number). Obviously it hasn't been a problem for you having the springs since you like it so well.
We are so disappointed because my son, who has trouble sleeping, reported sleeping much better on the bed even if it was just one night. He woke up with a sore throat the next am and the chemical smell is so bad I can't even go in that end of the house.
My husband (we thought) is allergic to latex, but slept for 4 weeks on the guesthouse bed and had no ill-effects at all. Maybe we should ask the Klein's to ship us a bed! LOL

They have them both with an without springs. They have beds exactly like the guest house beds. Tell them I recommended you ... we've bought three beds from them.
He may be allergic to latex touching his skin, but not covered up?

Six, do you have the "oxygen pillow" from that site too? Wondering if that is comfortable.
I thought I read that the metal springs are okay as long as your bed frame isn't metal? Anyone heard that? Because a wooden frame would prevent EMF's from making it to the springs, if that makes sense.
Or is totally metal-free best?

Here is a product someone on Lyme Friends posted about. She didn't really say how well it worked though, just that she had gotten one. And she doesn't use Lyme Friends anymore that I know of.
Click on "Mattress Wraps." It would be something you can wrap the mattress in, to prevent off-gassing. I wonder if it would work for the Sleep Number bed.

The matress wrap looks interesting. I always wondered if you could put the new mattresss in a closet with an ozone machine then put in one of those allergy matress covers. The ozone is supposed to help accelerate the outgassing so most of the chemicals come out. The allergy mattress cover should block any residual outgassing. Not sure if this is too much trouble, but I guess it depends on your options and needs.

From when I got mine about 10 years ago,,,there are plastic planks that may be a prob,,and foam inbetween chambers. Do they also use chems in the soft parts??
They will pry my air bed from my cold dead hands!!! Its the ONLY bed I can stay out of the chiro's office with!!

Hoos, I have a wooden bed frame. I do have the pillow and love it. I always liked down pillows when they were new, but after a few months, they always seemed to flatten out too much. I've been using this one for a year and a half and it's still comfortable.
Just don, unzip your bed and lift the foam. Check for mold. If there is mold, they will send you new parts, even a new bed depending on how much is affected. Mine was covered with mold but you couldn't see it unless you lifted the foam and looked where it touched the air mattress part.
