Hi, I just tested very high (4 to 5 times upper limit) on both ASO and DNAseB strep tests. I don't have any typical strep symptoms, but have been treated for Lyme and co-infections for many years.
My LLMD said I should consider having a tonsillectomy.
I've heard chronic strep is what causes PANDAS, and that a common treatment for it is IVIG, and augmentin. I'm wondering if I should ask my LLMD to try these before a tonsillectomy.
I'd like to hear from anybody who has been diagnosed with chronic strep, and find out what treatment you had, and how effective it was.

Not sure if this is helpful, but I was just reading last week that Dr. K in WA states most lyme patients have undiagnosed & not obvious symptoms of chronic strep. And this needs to be addressed along with lyme & coinfections. I don't know how he treats it though...
I had a tonsillectomy in college due to monthly strep infections/severe swollem glands. For me, the operation was a huge sucess. I no longer sounded nasal, had a constant runny nose, stopped snoring and no more strep throats. That was 15 yrs ago.
Also when they took out my tonsils, the doctor was amazed that I lasted so long with them b/c they were enlarged and a breeding area for bacteria.
I was not given the tests that you mention above. After reading the article last week, I was thinking of rifing for the strep, just in case it was still in my system.

I tested very high ASO levels at the start of my lyme dx.
The only treatment I have been on has been Doxy and Rifampin, and after a few months of that my levels came back to normal.
It was interesting that someone mentioned a tonsillectomy. I had a lot of sore throats as a child, and in college I had a massive strep infection that could have potentially killed me because they misdiagnosed it.
No one has ever suggested a tonsillectomy for me, which always made me wonder.
For years, my tonsils always looked huge to me, and they got even bigger when I would get sick.
Now since treating for lyme and co. for almost a year they have shrunk dramatically.

Having your tonsils taken out is not going to help if the strep is really elsewhere in the body like the heart, lungs, nasal passage, ears????
Strep can also be blood stream and taking up residence anywhere. So IMO this isn't a fix.

I tested positive for systemic strep at my first appointment with LLMD. I don't have my tonsils!
I had, had strep throat about 3 months before going to LLMD, but throat cleared up with antibiotics given by my GP, before I knew that I had LD.
I think having LD opens us up for other infections to take hold. Antibiotics that are also used for lyme such as zith, should take care of the strep.

I have a high ASO too and it actually increased while treating with Amoxil- the LLMD did not know what to make of that as the ASO should go down with treatment.
what is the DNAseB strep test?

Anti-DNase B is a blood test to look for a substance produced by Group A Streptococcus, the bacteria that cause strep throat.

I've had to treat myself many times with my rife machine for staph and strep. Staph and strep continually are problems for me.
It has nothing to do with my tonsils from my experience.

I was just going to post about this. I just found out my aso titer is really high and I was just doagnosed with strep throat. I have not been this sick in a looooong time. I have a fever of 102.4 and been on zith 2 days. the pain is unbearable. I can barely lift my arms. I feellike I have pneumonia too. My chest is killing me.

We saw the local ENT doctor yesterday, and she said taking tonsils out was a very easy thing to do. No real down sides (except 2 weeks of a very painful throat ), but a likelihood of it helping.
She said tonsils can have an infection deep in the tissue. Steve
