havent posted in a while but had a question i was hoping for feedback on. i'm on zithromax and i also have epstein barr and cytomegavirus.
last few days ive had the sensation like my throat is constricted or like something may be irritated or swollen or stuck in there.
i had an endoscope like 5 months ago but didnt get this sensation till after that then it seemed to go away for a while and now its back.
my thyroid function checks out fine and my lyme doc doesnt think its an allergic reaction...any thoughts?
im also at that time of the month and feeling fatigued but dont know if this would be related at all-
i also get some ear pressure and in the back of my head but i've written this off to my jaw issues
i have another appt with a GI doc next week to see if maybe i need another endoscope. has anyone else had issues with their throat like this? could it be my acid reflux? thanks everyone

I get it all of the time...just had it again yesterday. Like you, been scoped and all is clear....
there have been several posts in the past of others having this symptom too. So it isn't that uncommon.

Yes this has been a symptom for me ever since I became ill 4 years ago. For me it comes and goes.
It can be very scary at times, feeling like I am choking, but its just the sensation of choking.
I think its a lyme symptom for me.
It is very annoying!

I have the exact same problem.
In fact, my jaw is misaligned. I've consulted with my bio-dentist and I'm thinking about getting a night brace to maybe re-align.
I get the swollen throat stuff too. But I actually think that's Bart.
I don't have a goiter and have no antibodies so I don't suspect thyroid either.

yes it is scary and annoying sutherngrl- sorry youve had it 4 years, im wondering if an anti inflamatory might help us
canefan i am currently using a night guard for my jaw -i was supposed to be using it nightly but got lazy b/c my jaw wasn't bothering me too much and now my jaw is worse so i'm back to using it nightly lol
still too soon to say how well its working but the dentist tells me to give it time since my jaw didnt get this bad in a day. im sorry you're having the same problem- i think it may be worth it to see if the guard works for you or maybe your dentist will have other ideas too
i get popping and crunching all the time now...and i will feel lucky if i dont end up eating applesauce for the rest of my life

Hi..new to this site...was diagnosed 3 months ago...felt this way twice already since diagnosis..almost feels like my tongue is swollen and it becomes difficult to swallow...along with sore throat and neck pain...any one else have those symptoms?

I did notice when I was treating Lyme (doxy, ceftin, plaquenil , flagyl) I didn't have this problem.
I guess Dr B was right...
At the end of the day if you aren't sure what's causing your problem... "It's Lyme, stupid."

Hi Everyone
I too have just noticed my tongue feels swollen
and it's hard to breath and difficult to
swallow, Just started the begining of feb. I
have been on doxy, plaquenil, zithro, but did
find out my thyroid was low so had to up the dose.

You might try taking an antihistamine and see if it helps. If it does, then you're having an allergic reaction, and that's not necessarily to a drug (although it could be). I think we could have allergic reactions to the toxins released by the die off of Lyme, et al.
If it doesn't respond, it could also be Babesia. My throat problems didn't start clearing up until I started getting over Babesia.

I've only had this once and it was one of the most horrible symptoms yet. Sorry you are feeling this!
Mine was a little different as it started with the feeling that I had something "stuck" in my throat. My tongue and mouth wasn't swollen or anything.
Over the next few days it got worse and worse until it felt like every time I swallowed, I was swallowing glass. I could hardly eat anything at all.
I went to GI doc and they did Barium swallow test, endoscope etc. Nothing wrong! Ugh so frustrating.
It eventually went away after about 10 days. I personally think mine was acid reflux and it burned my throat and took a while to heal.

I have this symptom also. It comes and goes randomly. It does feel like swelling or pressure in my throat. Nothing seems to help.
It just goes away on its own after a few days but is also accompanied with feeling generally horrible. Still a mystery though.

I had this feeling a LOT at the outset 2 years ago. Endoscopy and barium swallows showed nothing, so the docs just said it was anxiety related.
Started happening again recently, when a lot of other things also kicked up.
Everything else seems to have settled down, except this, my air hunger and my vision issues.
I've tried Benadryl to settle it and I've tried ibuprofen (neither one every day); sometimes one or the other helps, sometimes not.
It seems to go away when I sleep, meaning it doesn't keep me from sleeping, and it's often gone at least for a time when I wake up.
I don't have trouble either breathing or swallowing, although it seems like I should, if that makes any sense.

I recently got this - the lump in the throat - feels like something is stuck and pressing on my neck.
Almost feels like I was hit in the neck - you know that funny feeling you get when that happens.
For me, it turned out to be laryngeal reflux - a form of GERD.
I was diagnosed by an ENT who used a small scope to see down my throat and my larynx (voice box) is swollen and that's what I'm feeling.
Some days are better than others - I hardly feel it and some days it's awful all day.
It is always better after sleeping and a lot of times it's better after eating for a short time. This is because eating and sleeping relieve the spasm temporarily.
I believe it is cricolaryngeal spasm - google it. It comes with laryngeal reflux also known as LPR.
