I was on hydrocodone that my Lyme's doctor put me
on after my surgery for my medi-port because the

muscle they sewed it to was very painful and kept spazzing. I was on this medication for quite a

while and I was having to constantly take it between the pain, and then the surgeries I had to

have ( surgery for internal bleeding and gallbladder surgery). This past week, ontop of

all of the pain I was feeling from my gallbladder surgery, I wound up in the ER with bad stomach

pains due to severe constipation. I can no longer take my pain medication because it was causing

the constipation. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could take to manage my

pain effectively which will not cause constipation?

Miralax is the only thing that has worked for me.

DO not use stimulates because the reason you are constipated is the numbness of the pain meds slowing down the muscle movement and the stimulates can cause more problems.

Miralax is some what controversial because it is an actual plastic but you have to weigh the benefit risk just like every other med and or protocol.

I would not be able to take my pain meds without it and have tried everything else. AFter years on pain meds my gut is in slow shape but also have some palsy of the gut on top of it.

IF i do not take the miralax I end up in the hospital.. I do not take that much and just add some to my water every other day. You have to play with the amount because you do not want to over do it either...

But it is gentle and non cramping and easy to tolerate for me...

Everyone is different but I have not hear any negative responses except for the unknown of long term use..

Good Luck.

ALso I am now on Embed ( a new narcotic morphine). It really is working well and is a once every 12 hour med.

I'd really like to find some other form of medication besides narcotics to control my pain.
