I did not have any knee pain until a month after I started Lyme treatment with Doxy.
It started as quick pulses of pain that laternated between my left and right knee.
Finally, it settled in my left knee as quick stabbing pains and at times it was so painful that it would make me exclaim out loud.
The pain has dulled now after Ceftin was added, a month's pulse of Flagyl, and some Plaquenil but it is till there.
Any insight from anyone?

Doxy caused by left knee to swell. It got so bad I had to get a wheelchair to get on the plane to see my LLMD.
Sounds like your pain is a little different but the knee is a common place for borrelia to settle. As you kill the spirochetes, they inflame the tissue and cause pain.
I don't know for sure that is what is happening. You might want to contact your LLMD and let them know.

I know I still have lyme because of the occasional pain in my right knee and right arm. It comes and goes.
Treatment always brings out new symptoms. Hopefully your antibiotics are attacking it in your knees and it will improve soon.

TerryK and nefferdun...Thanks for your input.
My LLMD thinks the knee pain may be a sign of Bartonella because it doesn't seem to go away with antibiotics.
And yes, it is like a reminder to me that there are still bugs to kill!

I had severe knee pain after taking Tygacil. My doctor thought that it might be drug induced.
He did an ultra sound and saw that there was blood in my tendon (not a good thing). The tendon can rupture if there are problems.
This is usually caused by drugs like Levaquin.

Haley, I've never been on Levaquin but will mention this to my LLMD at my next appointment.
Better safe than sorry!

Knee pain has been one of my worse sx. It took 6 yrs with abx(only 3 yrs) and rife to knock this sx down from daily to once a month flare for 3-4 days.
Of late it has reared it ugly head to daily and I believe it's due to the rifampin that I started 7 weeks ago for bartonella sx. Rifampin has got some the meanest deepest lyme bacteria fired up.
I'm now attacking lyme back down by using rife machine. IMO, it's not a reaction/damage to/from the rifampin but bacteria reaction to the rifampin.

Oh, by the way...I've found Tiger Balm sauve to be the best temporary relief for this. Pain and antinflammatory meds don't touch it. White Flower does a great job too.
