For about a week now (off and on) I've had a strange symtpom that just knocks me down sometimes for hours.

I will urinate and then immediately afterwards I feel a dull (at first) pain in my urether that then turns into a very sharp pain...especially if I sit down. I literally get chills and shooting pains up my urether into the bladder.

I then feel like I need to go again but if I try only a trickle will come out and the pain/chills only gets worse. It is much like a bladder infection when tested for that it always comes back negative. I've had this happen twice now.

The only thing I can do to make this go away is to lie flat on my back. Sometimes it will go away in 20 min. Other times I've had to lay down for 3-4 hours. It doesn't bother me when laying down...only when standing or sitting.

Has anyone else ever had this?? What could it be???

I have IC and I've had severe bladder spasms. Kinda sounds like one to me!

Did you ask a dr about it?

I'm not sure I really know what IC is.

I am going to my OBGYN this week and was going to ask him if it might be endometriosis on my bladder. I've heard that can cause bladder infection like pains.

What are your symptoms with IC...and how do you treat it?

My first thought was a UTI.

But reading your second post... I had endo on my bladder and ureter - and yes, it caused similar pain. Ouch.

Ask you OB/GYN, but yes - endo on your bladder/ureter can be quite painful.

Is your endo acting up at moment a lot? If so, sounds like a reasonable guess.

What is your plan for managing your endo right now?

Oooooh, just thinking about it is giving me flashbacks! I'm so sorry. Hang in there.

Oh! Sorry to post again so fast but just thought of one more thing... actually my hubby thought I should warn you (if you don't already know)...

With endo on the bladder or ureter... I found that if I waited too long to urinate (say we were in the car and I couldn't run to the bathroom right away)... I would always be in for an excruciating night.

So even though it can cause pain... don't try to hold your urine. That can make the pain worse - I think it aggravates the bladder.

Hope that helps till you see your OB/GYN.

Could be UTI or IC.... sounds very much like my first symptoms before getting the IC...they started in the urethra...I could actually feel the urine go into the urethra...felt cold

also could be some pelvic floor muscle involvement.

hope your ob/gyn can help.

You should make an appt to see your ob/gyn. They will not diagnose you over the phone, and they will definitely want to check you out. Stop
driving yourself crazy with worry, and get yourself checked out. Plus dealing with that kind of pain for hours as you said is not fun at all.
Take care,
Limeaid

My daughter has this sometimes. It has been checked but it supposedly isn't a UTI.

Bladder irritability is included on some LLMD's list of symptoms. An LLMD also told me that Lyme likes the bladder.

That is just our experience. You should still get it checked out.

My daughter will have this for a little while, but then it goes away for a long time. Unfortunately, it does come back.

Thanks all. I do have an appt with my OB Gyn later this week.

I am wondering if I should also go to a Urologist?

One other question. Does anybody that has this pain find that laying down makes it go away? I don't really know why but if I feel it coming on and lay down (20 min to several hrs) it will go away. I wonder why that is...

I have had relief with laying down.

I wonder if somehow your SI Joint is involved..tightening the pelvic floor muscles.

I was told by a Dr that SI joint pain is relieved by laying on your back.

A urogynacologist would probably be good too.

Depending on the urologist you go to they may or may not be able to help. but they will be able to rule out a UTI.. some know about IC and others dont.
