My LLMD gave me something called the Pekana Basic Detox and drainage kit.
I am starting it today. Supposed to detox your lymphatic system, plus your liver and kidneys.
Has anyone tried this? Can I expect a Herx?

thanks

I have never tried the one you are on but I can tell you that I herx pretty bad when I detox.

I just added Cholestrymaine to my regimine and by day 2 was feeling a pretty strong herx.

So IME you can most certainly experience a herx during detox. Best of luck! TG

cholestrymaine and welchol and binders don't make you "herx." Neither do detoxers.

They simply bind to toxins in the gut and excrete them.

A herx is when you KILL bacteria. That isn't happening in either of yalls cases.

The crappy feeling can be a toxic feeling but not a herx.

Canefan is right, a herx is when bacteria are killed by Rx - and the liver and kidneys can't keep up with metabolizing the waste.

Supporting organs and systems that help with metabolizing waste is a good thing - when done within reason. I don't call it "detox" as that has such a wide range of interpretation and can be an "event" to some.

To me, supporting detox functions, just feels better and support is less likely to push too hard. Some pushing "detox" events too hard, too much, too often, is where people can feel worse, like a herx. The lymph, the liver, the kidneys can only do so much at one time.

Warm (not hot) baths in epson salts, gentle walking, Qi Gong or Tai Chi . . . all that is also supportive to all systems and functions.

The whole idea is to facilitate - that is what the Pekana Basic Detox and drainage kit is all about. It's supportive, not forceful. None of this is going to be a walk in the park but, if it's too much, back down a bit. It's a process.

You colon needs to have good fiber and bulk in order to absorb the waste, so be sure to eat enough good vegetables in lots of colors. Dark berries and tart apples, some Quinoa ("keen-wa"), enough protein so your liver can manufacture glutathioine in order to better work . . . and good fats, too.

Drainage remedies can cause one to feel sick. I felt very sick the first month I was on them. I've been on them for several years now and will continue to take them as long as I'm in treatment.

Forgive me for those who have already read this but many lyme patients apparently have increased immune complexes (C3D) which I was told indicated that we were killing lots of pathogens but the debri wasn't getting out of the cells very well. Drainage remedies will help clear the debri.

As far as a herx, technically no but the effect of cholestyramine and possibly other detox is probably similar if not the same. Cytokines are implicated in the herx reaction. When taking cholestyramine lyme patients do better if they follow Dr. S's protocol and add actos before cholestyramine. It downregulates cytokines and keeps us from getting really ill when the biotoxins are mobilized for excretion.

Some of us with certain genetics need specific detox methods that others may do fine without.

Binders for biotoxins, methylation cycle issues, pyroluria, KPU and perhaps intracellular toxins require different types of removal techniques so while supporting the organs is very important, some of us will need more specific measures for our situation.
