I am just curious for those of you who have shortness of breath with your lyme symptoms. I know it can be indicative of babs, but I am curious when you experience it?

I am not short of breath just resting and sitting. However, when I mildly exert myself physically I get the shortness and almost a burning in my lungs like asthma.

This happens when I am walking down a woods rd at an average pace or walking up a gentle hill or pulling weeds!

Is this normal??? This is crazy.

yeah, my air hunger was like that at times. It was hard to distinguish it from just being out of shape- except in my case I also had it at other times when just resting, and often had it when I had to speak fast or loudly or just 'for a long time', so I knew it wasn't from me being out of shape. Later on , I got more asymptomatic but still had the air hunger- so I was able to work out a few days a week and got into really good shape physically- and the air hunger still randomly happened, so I knew it wasn't just from exertion in general.

I get air hunger/shortness of breath as well. Mine doesn't seem to happen at any given time; it's just kind of random.

My LLMD says my babs tests came back negative, but this symptoms hasn't really gone away with treatment for Lyme and Ehrlichia, so I don't know what else to think.

Are you sure your heart is OK?

Well...I had an EKG 4 months ago for a surgery and was told everything was ok. I don't have heart palpitations or anything like that. My heart does beat hard when I really exert myself though. My BP is slightly elevated, usually 145/85. I've mentioned this to my LLMD and he didn't seem to concerned based on my age (30), don't smoke, and pre-lyme activity level. I'm not so sure though. I will see him again in two weeks. Thanks for the reply.

Might want an echocardiogram. EKG only tells what your heart is doing at that exact point in time.

My 14 year old son has the shortness of breath. I happens randomly usually several times a week. It's very scarry. Our Dr. says it's Babesia and put him on Mepron and azithromycin.
We're crossing our finger that it works.
According to all the stuff I've been reading this is the correct meds for him.

KY, I get shortness of breath like you. After mild exertsion. But the funny thing is it doesn't always happen.

I can go weeks and feel almost fine and then I'll start having problems. It comes and goes.

I notice it most just walking up the stairs. For example, 2 days ago I could hardly get up there without my heart pounding wildly and feeling almost faint. Then the next day I was fine!!

I exercise when I can and only 2 years ago I was going to spin classes 2-3 times/week and doing bike rides from 50 to 170 miles!

Funny, you said about the stairs..that's when I notice it. I had a n echo and EKG a few months after I got sick, because of tachycardia and shortness of breath. My heart was fine.

Lately, when I walk up the stairs, my heart pounds and I can'y breathe. Last week I walked quickly for 4 miles ...and was fine!

We can't figure out if it's babs or bart or lyme!

Mine is just like what you describe, Maria. I know it's not from being out of shape for the simple reason that I am fit.

I've been treating babs with mepron & zith for the past several months without much, if any change.

Bart seems to be a real issue for me, so lately I wonder if bart is really the culprit for this symptom.

Most likely babs...but Lyme and bart are always in the mix too.

However, I personally didn't have bart. So I can't blame that one!
