posted 03-13-2010 06:54 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've been seeing an LLMD since July of last year. Treating me for babesia and bartonella although I didn't test positive for bart. Started me on two months of Mepron with no response Except better balance. Stopped falling where as I was falling two-three times a week.. Then went to Biaxin and Bactrim for two months. Flu like symptoms for a few days. Improvement in balance, hot flashes, breathing, fatigue, everything for 6 weeks then started to go back to where I was when I started the Biaxin/Bactrum. Change to Levaquin for two months. Very little change. back to Biaxin/Bactyrim for two months. Improvements for seven weeks this time then started reverting back again During that time hot flashes almost totally gone, breathing much better, fatigue greatly improved, brain fog better,no difference in night sweats-those have not ever improved. Now e's taken me off everything except supplements. Not sure that is the right thing to do.
Won't treat me with IV Rocephin because of the laws in NH. Dr. Burrascano's protocol says I should be treated with it because of all the IV steriod treatments I have had in the past. Guess I'm just getting very discouraged at the improvement of symptoms then the regression of them. Not sure I'm getting the proper treatment. Also, I don't ever herx. Wonder if that is an indication of something. Maybe not being treated with the right antibiotics??

Babesia is a hard one to get rid of and 2 months is not near long enough. I didn't have any improvement with Rocephin so I don't think that is a necessity. In my experience you can get good results from oral antibiotics and bicillin. It has been 3 1/2 years for me with aggressive treatment and I am feeling sooo much better but still not there yet. I am pretty new to this site though and there seems to be alot of different treatment protocols that work for people. In my uneducated opinion you definately need more aggressive treatment.

He's not treating me for babesia right now and I think he should be. Also, everything I read says he should have used Azithromycin along with the Mepron.
He gave me one shot of Bicillin at the start of treatment. Don't think that's enough either.

You can always go for a second opinion. Do not feel like your locked into one doctor. I have been to many and will probaly switch again.

Sort of odd he used Mepron by itself, assuming that is what you meant. I never heard of it not being paired up with something, usually Zithro.
And what did he give you for Lyme? Out of that bunch, Bactrim may hit Lyme some, but not sure about the others... mepron certainly doesn't and I don't think levaquin does much either.
Sounds like you need to restart mepron, or try malarone, paired up with Zithro, to me. What reason does your doc give for not restarting babesia treatment if you are still having night sweats?

You're right!
Did you post in Seeking a Doctor to get a list of drs in your area?
If you can travel, let them know that too.

- Be sure to have liver support in place BEFORE you start the zith. It's not just for your liver but also for your ears so that you can better tolerate zith and it can work better for you. But, with mepron, the kind of liver support & the timing (away from mepron) is important.
Zith can push the ears, so that is why liver support help - to keep the toxin level down so the ears don't take such a hit, too.
Instead of milk thistle, there may be something else you would take. Some still do take milk thistle, just timing it hours apart. -

Don't know hy he's not treating me for babesia or why he didn't use zith. Never really got an answer from him.
He's taken me off everything but supps for 2 months. I don't think that's a good idea but he wouldn't change his mind. Says he wants to clear my system out of antibiotics.
I do take NAC and milk thistle for my liver. Just got tested two weeks ago. Test was normal.
I'm gonna make an appointment with the doctor in CT. Hopefully we can talk about being more aggessive-maybe IV therapy.
