I hope someone can help us. My son has had Lyme Disease for 7 years. We have good times and bad. He's been quite sick since Dec 1st 2009. He's being treated by a LLMD.

He started Spiro drops today. He had 3 drops. His head hurts so bad he says he wants to die.

Can anyone tell us if they've had a similar experience???

My wife used it for a while, and it did cause a Herx. Unfortunatly, the high alcohol content would produce painful Thrush on her tongue, and she had to stop using it.

You may want to lower the dose, and creep up as it is more tolerable.

Good Luck

Dan

Suggestion: Try waiting a day or two, then try one drop. I'm assuming this is an herbal??

Thanks for your comments. We'll back off and start again more slowly. This is Spiro from Raintree. I'm not finding a lot of information on it and I believe that is because it's fairly new.

Thanks again.

Dear Wisconsin,

Spironil is not new. I used it ten years ago. I never had the type of reaction you describe. Used to take 10-15 drops three times a day and more. Search for Teasel Root - maybe you will get more info. Google "Klinghardt spironil teasel root" - it is used in Autism which of course is Lyme and metal toxicity, as well as EMF exposure, and several other inherited problems, often wheat allergy. I used it along with a number of other herbals and cannot tell which one was the major contributor to my getting well. I took tons of Freeze-dried garlic also which is antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, antiparasitic, and supports toxic metal detox, etc.

I never had a herx and got well.

Stephen Buhner writes a bit about Teasel Root in his book "Healing Lyme". You can write to him at [email protected] He is a good and wise man - His lecture at a recent Klinghardt seminar was superb.

Hope you find what helps your son.

Take care.

I took it for 2 weeks and my head swelled like a balloon. I backed off for a few days and lowered my dose. I would say it took 5 days or so for the swelling to go down and oncee i added the drops back I did get swelling again but more tollerable this time

In addition to what others have said, I'd call the doctor and let them know about his reaction and get their advice.

Spiro is different from SpiroNIL. Spiro is a tincture formula of several herbs by Rain-Tree; SpiroNIL by PRL (tincture of just teasel root). Both are alcohol extracts and that, alone, can be too much for a child.

As TuTu suggests: "Try waiting a day or two, then try one drop"

Maybe a larger amount of water will help, too.

But first, put just a little warm water in a cup and swirl it around for a couple minutes so that the air can help some alcohol evaporate. You can then add WARM water but never boiling - as if it has aerial plant parts used (flower, leaf, stem), the hot water can negate the effects of the tender parts of the plants.

For tincture only using roots, rhizome, bark - hot water can be used. I'm not sure just where vine falls, if that is considered "aerial" or not. But, the more tender the part of the plant used, then only warm water, not hot.

I know of one LLMD who want his patients to avoid tincture altogether as he says the alcohol content is just too strong for their livers.

I took Raintree's Spiro for several months and always poured hot [not boiling, as Keebler says] water over first to allow the alcohol to evaporate:

I never got an adverse reaction and would report your son's to your LLMD; maybe ring Raintree to and ask if this is typical.

Gigi, I'm glad you were impressed by Stephen Buhner: although I eventually stopped his protocol, I DID think he was both a very bright and sincere person.

I still use some of his herbs on occasions.

I'm not sure if anyone will read this, but I am so grateful for these responses. Our son was better for 18 months on Buhner's protocol.

Now he is sick again with "malaria". I will try the warm water and see if that helps. I did report this to his Dr, but haven't heard back yet.

In all these years of treatment I've never noticed what others describe as a "herx". This appeared as if it could be one.

I can NOT believe how much I learned by just reading these posts. THANK YOU!
