MY LAST SED RATE TESt came back in normal range...0-30...yet i am at 30 for sed rate...im not happy, i want it down to 0, i will be taking another sed rate test at the end of the month

i saw my chronic fatigue dr, yesterday, and he wants me to come to his hickville office in long island to do the viral/bacteria panel, he dont have a nurse in the brooklyn office to do such a test...that is a travel i would have to look into. penn station and

get travel arrangements. then he said that if i do come to the office in hickville, for the bloodwork on the virues/bacterias... i can no longer see him in brooklyn, this is not good because i dont want to go to hickville, in the first place... i cannot win for losing......grrrrrrrr

You want your sed rate down to zero? Zero can spell trouble. Another goal may be more fun. My guess in you just want to have less pain. SED rate can't tell us everything.

Might be zero if you stop breathing.

It is general indicator. And when you are on the edge of the range are you getting higher or going lower ?

Mine was 95 6 weeks ago.

Mine is always zero. What does that mean?

I just had my sed rate done a few weeks ago. It says normal ranges are 0 - 20. Mine is at 6.

I see now that, yes, zero can happen with a SED rate test. Remember that SED rate can't tell everything but at either end of the scale, more tests may be ordered.

Some discussion here:

Blood test - low ESR SED rate ?

========

A search regarding a low sed rate with lyme & babesia might also be helpful as it has to do with the compactness of red blood cells - and babesia often changes RBC.

Can't your doctor simply write you a script for the viruses and bacteria he wishes to test, and you go to a regular blood lab (LabCorp, Quest, Sunrise, Whoever)? That's what most people end up doing a lot of times, depending on what insurance they have.

I assume he has to send your blood to the lab anyway to get checked.

I don't understand why you have to travel to his office with a nurse, to get blood taken, when you can get it taken locally.

Mine has measured high-ish, in the 50's or so. My c-reactive protein, another marker for inflammation, has also registered high.

SED rate is not a specific test and didn't help my doctors (pre-LLMD) diagnose me. I haven't had it measured in awhile, wonder if it would be lower now that I'm doing better?

"then he said that if i do come to the office in hickville, for the bloodwork on the virues/bacterias... i can no longer see him in brooklyn"

That is crazy and I would NOT do it because of that!

My sed rate is usually around 3. Many lyme patients have low sed rates. 30 is not bad. My CRP is very low... and yet... I DO have inflammation.

Why would a sed rate be low with lyme. Mine is high. I thought with lyme you had more inflammation?

Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :

I know.. briggs.. you would think so. I know several years ago someone here said it was because so many of us have thick blood, or hypercoagulation.

That will make the sed rate lower. ( I do have hypercoagulation.)

higher means you have a lot of inflammation in the body, 0 is good... even 1 MEANS less inflammation, less pain.

he has gave me a script for the sed rate amount other tests, i dont get the hickville thing either,

on my first visit to him, i took my lab work that shows all the viruses that i have, i can go to a labcorp right here in the city, what the heck is he thinking.

maybe they have a special list of the virsues that they run, i dont know. i will email him right now...and see what he has to say, cause that travel while i am not feeling up to it... is not good.

My son was put on Azithromycin for fluid on his lung ( before we knew about the Lyme )and about 48 hours later he had HORRIBLE leg pains.

Herx but did not know it at the time!

That sent us to urgent care where they ran a few blood tests and his SED rate came back at 122!!

His doctor finally realized something was terribly wrong but assured me it was most likely Lupus or J. Rheumatoid Arthritis and not Lyme.

I remember hoping it was Lyme??

Had no idea what we were getting into.

Mine was 60 when I had bad Lyme. I would fluctuate 40-60 for a long time!

Back to normal after 5 years, whew! It is a general inflammation marker.

Mine was 2 for over 2 years with undiagnosed Lyme.

Sed rate can also be low with intercellular bugs

that make them heavy on the test. The heavier the

cells are the lower the sed rate. Some docs use it

as a guide for anemia and nothing else. In lyme it

can be a deceiver, making them think everything

is fine without actually looking at the cells. If

the protein is not there-it is something else..

Sed rate and c-reactive protein are just two tests that show that days inflammation rate.

I find it interesting that some like Tutu have low sed rates? What about c-reactive results in you guys?

Pam

Sorry guys...Im a big dummy when it comes to this.

I had lab work done in Jan. I see on my sheet from lab corp my Dr had my sed-rate tested along with other things.

I have a copy of my results but dont know where to find results of sed rate on it. He had me tested for many things and its all so confusing to me.

Any helps for finding results?

I know it shows postive for WA1, vit 1:25 and Vit d is low, calcium is low,

and C-reactive protein, cardiac is above average for relative risk for future cardiovascular event? ): ):.

With the cardio I fall just above the average mark.

Thanks a million,
Karen (:

I am in alot of pain (inflamation?) and would like to be able to figure in what range my sed rate falls.

Looking at my latest Labcorp sed rate, I'll see it I can explain how to read your sheet.

Test name --- Result --- Reference range 0-20
Sed Rate -- your number

Does that help?

Pam

If there really were ever to be a test that could measure the pain and inflammation associated with lyme, I'm sure that most lyme patients' tests would be so far out of the ball park that the tests would be deemed void, the irregular markings - only "artifact" -they would say, like the machine just went kaput for no reason.

Keebler, I agree with you

Pam, Yes that helped greatly....I went back and after looking over each test I checked it off on my result sheet...at which time I realized I was 1 test short (missing the sed rate result)...upon further researching I discovered there was a page #3.. Searched my mounds of paper and volia.....there was page 3 with Sed rate results in plain english all on its lonesome. [bonk] [bonk]

Ghesse, pitful...all this from a college grad..-lol

Thanks for the help

Karen

oh by the way mine is a 4...it says range is 0-30... Dont really know what that means but at least I know -lol--

besides like Keebler says..I dont really need a test to know I am in pain..just like I DIDNT need test to tell me I had lyme and co-infections... its just something I knew.

Thanks all!!!

My sed rate and crp are very low. However, though not specific for Lyme and co's, my C4a used to be extremely high.

Normal is 0-2830. I had a high of 20,000 until finally dropping to normal last month for the first time ever since testing/treating.

This normal C4a now also correlates with the beginning of having much better days.

I also wonder if the Plaquenil lowered it, but my doctor thinks it is lower b/c we killed the Bartonella. No way to know for sure.

My TGF B1 was also very high and tracks w/ C4a, according to Shoemaker.
