Dear Runner,

I tried doing this for 2 years back before I knew I had Lyme. I was gaining weight, and the "sure-fire" diet protocol I was on said to check temperature and do the Wilson protocol if the temp was low.

Well, 2 years of it, and my temperature never did stabilize near 98.6.

I've been reading Dr. J's book "Beating Lyme Disease," and he talks in there about the low temp situation, and gives some steps to handle. One of them is putting iodine tincture on yourself. Right now, I'm painting myself with iodine tincture every 12-24 hours, and my body is sucking it up!!

I haven't tried any other recommendations of his yet, but am very interested, as you can imagine.

The best my temp. was doing was right near the end of almost a year of Mepron/Zith.

I'm taking the A.I drops now (about a year of them, actually), and my temp. is subnormal nearly all the time again. On a good day, it will get up to 98.3--late in the day.

My opinion is that the Wilson's Syndrome T3 handling won't resolve the situation if you have an active underlying infection. You could try it, and if it works within a few months, well, then you just needed your body's temperature trigger re-set after the Lyme, etc., situation was handled.

As another note (I follow data about temperature situations and potential handlings), the MP cohort members have reported normalizing body temperature, along with diminished need for thyroid medication.

Hope this helps!

Best,

Cass A

I spent a lot of time and money with an internist working on the Wilson protocol.....in my experience the theory and results are unfounded. I'm not a doctor....simply a Lyme patient with no thyroid gland.

For it to work, you can't nickle and dime it. You have to push the envelop and get yourself up close to 90 mcgs +/- of T3 per day.

You also have to watch for hyper symptoms though. The protocol is not without risk.

The higher doses are also what works for those with severe depression (at least in the few studies I've seen).

I've read the statement of one pharmacy that indicated lower daily doses may work but may take much longer to act (many months)...

Worth a shot for those with low temps...

I heard from someone who saw Dr R, a naturopath in California who has Lyme and apparently sort of specializes in treating Wilson's cases (she isn't specifically a Lyme doctor- she sent my friend to a real LLMD after she diagnosed him with Lyme rather than just thyroid issues). Anyway, apparently she believes that the Wilson's protocol doesn't work easily if you still have active infection, and I think I've read here that other MD's think this also.

Not to mention if your adrenals aren't ready for the t3(which is a stim)

I recommend to the original poster supporting the adrenals and treating Lyme/Co
