I am type 2 diabetic and test my blood glucose on my forearms.
A few days after I started biaxin and flagyl, I noticed that where I used the lancet device, there were little purplish spots.'
Usually, there is only a tiny red spot.
I'm starting to look like an addict with track marks going up each arm
I can count a total of 8 spots right now.
Could the biaxin be causing this?

Hey Bugbarb,

I did not have any problems with increased bleeding or bruising while on Biaxin. Since you recently started Biaxin and Flagyl I decided to pull them both up on rxlist.com.

I learned that both meds are known to potentiate the effects of anticoagulants. Biaxin alone can cause an increase in prothrombin time (this measures the clotting/bleeding tendency of blood).

From what I have read, I think that it is rare but possible that the Biaxin and Flagyl together are causing your bleeding and bruising symptoms.

Are you taking any anticoagulants, systemic enzymes, anti-inflammatory medications or supplements? If so, you may want to back down on those while you are on this med combo.

You should also tell your doctor about these new bruises. They will probably want to monitor your bloodwork more closely.
