I am curious if the Cdiff increase and resistance is not a direct result of the increase of lyme
patients also being infected with borrelia that lowers the immune system. Meaning those patients may show Cdiff but not Lyme.

That does make some sense. I mean, with all the antibiotics prescribed, more and more Lyme patients are coming down with c.difficile. I also blame the dermatologists putting people on antibiotics for acne for years on end and all the people who use antibiotics to try to cure viral infections!

Those people who use antibiotics with viral infections have to be getting the scrips somewhere, so I think we should turn our spotlight to irresponsible docs prescribing unnecessary abx!
Seriously, years and years of abx overuse and abuse by the medical industry have created these resistant strains of bacteria...physicians need to take some responsibility in this...which they generally don't.
Unfortunate.
I often worry about C-diff in regards to the abx protocol needed to wipe out Lyme. I *still* can't find an MD to prescribe any antibiotics for me whatsoever, so perhaps they are getting a little more control over their scrip-writing urges!
Or maybe it's just that no MD wants to touch Lyme with a ten-foot pole. Still haven't figured that one out!

I don't think it is overuse causeing the so called resistance. If they don't look for other causes
because they don't have accurate tests it is impossible to truly say for sure. If you die from
Cdiff or MRSA how many times do you think they do antigen testing for other entities. I would bet
none. And the same thing is happening to Malaria patients citing resistance. In those population
we know Borrelia is at least 11% and HIV is out the roof in that same country.
Citing resistance would be a good incentive for the vaccine though.

Yes, this story was in our CJ Louisville newspaper yesterday. I hope Rene seen the story, since she is dealing with suspicion of c-diff.

Yep. Ironic that no one ever questions dermatologists who prescribe months of doxy for acne, yet you're lucky if you get 3 weeks worth for a serious, persistent infection. Maybe everyone should just go to a dermatologist.
