I just found out my vitamin D lovel is low, he didn't tell me how low??? The Doc called CVS, I just picked up 1.25 mg (50,000 Units)
Take 1 a week..
My questions are,
1- Is this a toxic range level? 2- only taking Doxy 100mg right now.
What do you yhink?
Thanks

That must be pretty standard as many have posted taking that amount. Since it's by prescription, I assume your doctor is overseeing this?
Google Dr. Mercola Vitamin D, he has written much on it.
Get out in the sunshine, too!! That's the BEST way!

1) not toxic at all 2) I think getting your D levels up is extremely important to modulating your immune system; also, please keep an eye on them as they can drop again; after you take the prescription you'll probably want to take over-the-counter D3

Yes, that is standard script for those who are Vit D deficient. chances are you will finish the script and then be told to take a normal Vit D supplement.Follow up blood work by your Dr. will probably show your levels are back to normal- but they can plummet again if you don't keep up.
As long as you are on Doxy- sunshine may not be the best way to go because of the very real risk of sunburn.

Question for the people taking Rx Vit D - Is the Vit D amount mostly D2 or D3?? I had mine tested, result was 26, so doc said get otc Vit D3 only @ 5000 iu's a day.
I guess the Rx amts are for people that are really low. Time for some sun Posted by cityroam1 (Member # 24787) on :
My mom took RX Vit D (which is D2) for 1 year, her level never changed. Most people do not get benefit from it. D2 is plant based and your body has a harder time processing it. D3 is what your body naturally makes when exposed to sun.
My level was at 18, I took D3 for three months and it rose to 72. I was taking 10,000 units per day but have now backed it down to 5,000. I order mine online from a company called bio tech pharmacal. My chiropractor told me about them, and they seem to work.

I started out on 50,000IUs 2x per week for 6 weeks. Now I am on 50,000IUs once a week.
Once you get your D to the optimimal level, you can maintain with a lesser dose of OTC D.
My doc says it takes between 2000 to 4000IUs per day to maintain.

Mine was 8 so I am taking 10,000 IUs a day of isotonic Vitamin D, a liquid form. I should find out in another couple weeks how much it has gone up. It's from Nutramedix and boy is it delicious! It tastes like a SweetTart, I never miss my Vitamin D drink.

Make sure it is D3 and not the synthetic D2. My LLMD prescribed 50,000 units of Vit. D from Biotech. It's fairly cheap. bio-tech.pharm.com

Tracy, what is the name of the Nutramedix product you are taking? I can't seem to find any vitamin d products on their website.

My vitamin D level came back low as well....the referrence lab report had a note at the bottom that most people will be low during the winter months. Drinking my organic, grassfed cows, low fat milk with Vitamin D and getting some sunshine is my plan!
