I know this stuff is really potent...

Does it kill good bacteria too?
Is this a good herb to use to treat candida?

I know GiGi worked up to 9/day...

Is 2-3/day ideal?

Yes, it is antifungal and it can be very good as part of an anti-candida plan.

Kill good bacteria too? - Yes. Probiotics should be taken hours away and maybe one day a week, stop garlic and really load up on probiotics. Maybe one week every few months, go off of it. It's good to do that with most supplements, anyway.

It's best to start with one capsule, at the end of a good breakfast or lunch. After a week or so, maybe add one to the other early meal of the day. By week three, probably ready to add one after the early evening meal. If that seems too stimulating, maybe just stick to earlier in the day.

Beyond that, refer to authors who have written about garlic for lyme patients for good dosing suggestions.

Garlic may not be for everyone (i.e. those with sulfur or methyl metabolism issues; those very easily over-stimulated). Garlic can also burn, so be careful to keep it in the capsule and take after a meal, especially at first, to see how your body handles it.

Also antifungal: Oregano Oil (always best in gel caps or DILUTED with other carrier oils and then put in a 1/2 cup of water). It can burn, too, so be careful. As another hot herb, it can also be stimulating in nature so best not to first try it too late in the day. Also best to start with one after a good meal.

Olive Leaf Extract (OLE) is also extremely valuable and is not stimulating in nature as garlic.

For someone with insomnia, allicin in morning and afternoon, with OLE in evening might be a good plan. Probiotics are also necessary when taking OLE, timed hours away.

Before starting something new, it's important to read about it from several professional authors (doctors, researchers). When at all possible, it's good to work with a LL ND (naturopathic doctor) who has four years' study and a degree in herbal medicine & the human body. Balance is key and there is much to consider when designing a support protocol.

If garlic is taken as a defensive, it has to be taken in high amounts to be effective as antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, anti-metal agents. Taking it to titration (until you smell yourself or your family does) and then you cut back, without losing the saturation point.

Your reward is a healthier gut and body while you may be losing some "friends"! I offered mine a choice - take over my lyme pain or get used to the odor.

With methylation issues, aka dysregulations/electromagnet errors in the DNA, I highly recommend Allergie Immun. There is nothing quite like it. Metals and chemicals are difficult to dispose of under these conditions. A hair test giving your present mineral base (Doctors Data $46) will tell all. AI will solve the problems re inability to detox.

Take care.

Thanks GiGi.

Is it worth cycling garlic?

Take a 1 week break every now and then?

Can I expect a yeast die-off and thus nausea and bloating?

Is Garlic just effective in the gut or does it get in the bloodstream and have benefits on, say, systemic candida or Lyme?

Garlic gets everywhere! See my old post I just pulled up - more on garlic.

Awesome thanks.

So when I do my metal detox protocol it's important to have garlic in the system keeping Lyme at bay?

Otherwise lyme could come raging back because mercury is no longer suppressing it?

By the same token... wouldn't being on abx's do the same thing as the garlic?

Thnx gigi

Can I do the doctor's data hair test if I've dyed my hair(with natural dye :naturcolor)

Thanks, diana

Dogmom2, when you fill in the form, you answer the question about hair dyes used. They take that into consideration.

Your alarm should ring: if you show little toxic metals and inadequate mineral base in the test.

Check in when you get the results.

I have worked up to 7 freeze dried capsules a day,

I don't smell like garlic yet. I really think it has helped me,and my family agrees. They have seen so much positive improvement in my over all health.

It has taken aprox. 2 months to build to 7 caps.

GiGi,

When you take breaks from the garlic... what do you substitute it with?

Cats Claw? Other herbs?

How long are your garlic breaks? 1 week, 1 month?

I don't think Cat's Claw is specific enough on it's own.

I rotate with andrographis. Sometimes, I combine them. Other thing to add to the combo-rotation mix are Berberine containing herbs such as, Oregon Grape Root or Coptis. Zhang's protocol has an alternative formula, too.

Even just adding one different supplement, rotating some of the support supplements, will change the over all formula in your body to help prevent resistance. You just don't want the exact same stuff day after day. Same with foods.

While not at all about lyme, this book explains much about the use of herbal supplements.

If I want to take a break from garlic(10 a day)

are you saying I can use, say oregano with coptis

or another yin and still get the benefits I am recieving from garlic?

I need a break... very loose bowels every day.

Posted by MDW005 (Member # 22706) on :

GiGi, keebler or anyone familar with garlic.

Could the bowel issues be from metals, toxin

die off, too much garlic?

Thanks

There is not one remedy/med that I would ever take continuously. One should always take breaks in between. Listen to your own body - it obviously is upset right now and any more anti's you put into it will probably not be beneficial. If your body is under stress to the extent causing loose stools, it's time to stop and take a break.

Garlic is antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal antimetal, and if you are carrying a load, overdoing it is not the way to go.

I would stop for a while and do just support for the organs - liver - kidney - skin - lymphatic system to give your body a break.

If you put too much in the kettle, it will break.
So your saying about toughing it, in my experience never pays off. You will reach your goal a lot easier by using common sense.

Wolfed Out, my feeling as above applies to your question also. More is not better.

It is well known that the body will accept certain treatments for a time, but will then turn around and become allergic to the very substance. Dr. K. refers to it as operant conditioning. You will find the expression in many of his writings. It's true - I turned allergic religiously to abx after two or three weeks and all had to come to a halt. Am I well today? yes, inspite of taking long breaks.

Take care.

GiGi... thanks so much for your response.

I will take a break. Will my body let me know when to go back on?

I was fearful of a break... I didn't want my symptoms to all come back and didn't want the lyme to take complete control again.
