I've decided to have my vitamin D levels tested, never have done so before!
Based on experience, which of the following tests is the correct one?
Vitamin D 25-Hydroxy D2 and D3 Vitamin D, 1,25 Dihydroxy Vitamin D, 25-Hydroxy
I am cost conscious, first test is over $200, the last in the list is $60.
Thanks for your help

Go with the 3rd one, Vit D, 25-Hydroxy, that will tell you if your low.

I can't remember which one my doc uses, but for sure know its not the second one. On the lymemd blog, that LLMD states that there is no need to test for 1,25. The body should be able to regulate that if you get the other part of your D up to an optimal range.
Also remember that normal range and "optimal" range are 2 different things. You need your D to be in the upper range of normal!
I am achieving this by taking prescription vitamin D, 50,000IUs 2x a week. Went from 23 to 58 in 6 weeks. Now I'm taking 50,000IUs one time a week. Once I get it up a little more, should then be able to maintain with 2000 to 4000 IUs per day.
I have taken presciption D in the past and once I got my D to the upper range of normal, it made a huge difference in how I felt. I am hoping for the same results this time around!

LymeMD has said several different things about Vit D and it's role, and has printed a retraction of one of them recently, so check again. I thought he said that testing levels of both forms can tell you something if the levels come back as 'reversed' from what is normal.

My doctor tests the second 2 you listed.
D,25 and D 1,25

Agree with kitty one should test D,25 and D 1.25 if d 25 is low and d 1.25 is elevated I would think twice about supplementing. Don't even bother to do the D 1.25 unless you use Quest or a lab that will freeze the sample.
