I took my daughter to her LLMD yesterday. He switched her off of the Doxy (after one month only) and put her on Bactrim. This was due to the sun exposure and the nice weather that is upon us. She tries to stay out of the sun but it's difficult for a kid to do that all the time. She was getting little pinpricks on her legs and she was just start bleeding for no reason. I was told that was the doxy doing that. So we get our Bactrim prescription filled yesterday and low and behold the same warning is on it about the sun? Is the sun warning on all antibiotics? Is it okay with the Bactrim more so then the doxy? This makes no sense to me? Anyone have success on Bactrim? Thank you!

Well, I am about to find out. I started bactrim 3 weeks ago, and I have been sitting in the sun a good chunk of today (using high sunscreen). I will let you know if anything bad happens.

I have been on Bactrim a long time and have not had any problems with the sun. I don't sit out to get tan or anything but I walked my dog all last summer and no problems.

It may be one of those that depends on the person. Whereas I think with Doxy everyone reacts in the sun.

I burned very easily on Doxycycline....even my hands when I was driving.

Now I am on Bactrim, and was given the same warning. I have been out in the sun these past few days and have not burned.

Of course, serious sunbathing would not be a good thing!

I'm currently on Bactrim and took a short vacation to Florida a couple weeks ago.

Being the smart alek that I am, I ignored the warnings about limiting sun exposure while on Bactrim.

I would up with a bumpy, red rash all over my chest. While it's unsightly, it doesn't bother me at all.
