Hi,
Our daughter's LLMD just sent us the results in the mail from her recent urinalysis.

It reads:

Urine culture

Organism 1 Result- Mixed Flora-Gram
positive

Colony count > 100,00 organisms

We have a script to do a urinalysis complete. So is the first test positive for a UTI and the Dr. wants to confirm?

Thanks for any help, Jane

Jane,

it should read a bacteria ( named like e-coli).

Hi Karen,
No only says 1 organism, but not a name.

Thanks for replying. Jane

Jane, you should ask the lab/doc what specific bacteria was found.

"Mixed Flora" indicates that at least one bacteria was identified, especially since there was a colony count of >100,000.

Gram-positive infections generally are easier to treat and less serious than gram-negative infections.

Regardless, all urinary tract infections must be treated early and aggressively.

Never heard of a "urinalysis complete" Your daughter's urine culture results are apparently positive for a UTI, which warrents treatment.

I agree she needs treatment. How old is she?
Could she get some D-Mannose till you get antibiotics?
Homeopathic treatment can help later but I would prefer if she gets some antibiotic soon.
You need to call the lab.

Ditto Karen. Abx sooner than later would be best. In the interim, d-mannose, cranberry and Vit C supplements should be taken.

Thank you Alana and Karen. I have a call into the Dr.

She has been taking D-Mannose for about a month, but with cranactin.

"mixed flora" likely indicates contamination from skin or vaginal flora.
