My daughter has been on heavy pain meds for months that have helped her chronic head pressure pain but they don't seem to be working as good as they have been.
She just started Rifampin and Doxy the other day and her head pressure has gone through the roof. The meds aren't helping much now.
She also feels like her left arm is driving her crazy. Like she wants to remove it. Tear it from its socket just to get rid of the pain and sensation. Sounds weird, I know.
Can Rifampin make pain meds and other meds less potent?
Or is she probably going through a major herx?
Any info is much appreciated and I thank you for it.
Paul.

Yes to both -- herx and Rifampin interacting with many things. Run a drug interactions check http://www.drugs.com/drug_interactions.html and see what comes up.

Paul. I'm sorry for the pain your daughter is in. You couldn't have known that you would actually provide some comfort in relating your daughter's problem. Left arm pain?
You wouldn't believe what has happened to my left arm about two weeks after starting Rifampin. It is some of the worst pain I've ever experienced and has beeen with me since late February when I started in Rifampin. If you look at my other posts you'll see that I'm constantly complaining of left arm pain.
I wondered what it was. I thought for sure that it was Rifampin, but I had a lot of stress and some hard physical exertion, which I couln't exclude.
In my case I was taking Biaxin with the Rifampin at first. Now we've added Ceftin as well.
I'm writing this at 5:50 in the morning because the pain woke me up; just like it does every morning.
I can only hope that it is a herx because I wouldn't want to go through this just because the drug itself was acting as an irritant.
