My daughter is on several psych meds including celexa, buspar, and trileptal. She needs to take Biaxin, which interacts with these and requires lowering the dose of the psych meds. She is so afraid to do this because she is so stable mentally. There was a time she ended up suicidal and in the hospital so she says she won't tamper with her psych meds. That makes Lyme treatment sooooo hard. She is not bipolar, but has extreme anxiety and that may not be from Lyme, just her base temperament. Anyone dealt with these issues?????

There are so many differnt abx to choose from for both lyme and co-infections, I'd say try for another abx. Does teh doc know that she has been previously suicidal and hospitalized for it? I don't think mnay llmds would want to tamper with her psych meds if they knew how bad she was.....

Try checking the medical interactions at drugs.com. You can check to see what drugs interact with the psych meds she is on. It does say that zithro does not interact the same way that biaxin does. Maybe your doctor will allow you to switch.
Good Luck

The problem is that she is intolerant of zithromax. That is correct that this drug does not interact with psych meds. Biaxin does and that is the only drug in its class she can take. She would need to modify her psych meds. She can't take Levaquin, Cipro, Tequin or any drug in that class because they make her manic. She can't take sulfa due to severe allergy. It is just very limiting!

Sounds like you are in good hands and her doctors are aware of the limitations of all of these drugs. It could take some time, as you don't want any severe reacions to come up!! Sending positive thoughts and prayers your way. Everything will turn out fine!! Take care.
