I'm so not feeling myself, I don't know. The anxiety is through the roof, xanax and clonapin not really helping. Does anyone have any experience like this? I'm out of my skin and afraid of sleeping cause its the same when I get up the next day.

Do you have Bartonella? When I'm having a Babesia herx I don't notice anxiety, but I do have anxiety and I think it's from Bartonella. A Bartonella herx could probably cause increased anxiety. For me, on Bactrim I had some monster headaches and chills, but they went away in a couple of days. The anxiety may be the same way. Hope your sleep improves.

I am the same - stopped bactrim 4 days ago and still a mental mess. I believe it has hit Bart for me, insane anxiety

Bactrim was very helpful for me. My Babs treatment made me very fatigued and Bactrim gave me energy. Maybe it acts like a stimulant for some people, which causes the anxiety.

I don't think I had anxiety from it, but I did start crying because of an emotional herx. So those kinds of emotional things can happen...it probably depends on the person.
I don't really have much anxiety as part of my illness though so I didn't really have it as a herx.
If I were you, I'd try to stick with it if I could, but at the end of the day, it's up to you and what you think you can handle, and what you think is right for you. I have stopped drugs before when I could tell they weren't gonna do me any good.
My herxing on Bactrim didn't last too long. The severe herxing lasted less than a week I'd say. I started seeing benefits somewhere between 3-6 weeks in. Can't remember exactly.

xanax and other benzo's make me more depressed which oddly makes me more anxious. Bactrim worked great for Bartonella like symptoms but I felt I had to take it with something else either zithro or doxy(if doxy take with food not dairy and avoid the sun) worked very well for me ( and others on this board as well). Also be sure to take 500-1000 mg of vitamin C which helps detox for bactrim (avoiding some of the sulfa component nitrosylation). Quinolones also work great for Bartonella but one of there class specific side effects is neurotoxicity including anxiety, fidgetyness, and for some seizures. Rifampin also works great for Bart I am told but requires more frequent blood tests and has its own fair share of side effects (judging by the posts on this site) not to mention orange tears, urine sweat etc.
Are you taking bactrim alone or with something else?

My daughter is taking Bactrim now for one week. Bactrim alone..... she just started to herx on Sunday. Very bad headaches, pressure in stomache and shaky hands. All symptoms she really never had before. I'm assuming it's a herx? But no anxiety on the Bactrim so far.

I am taking bactrim and zithro and adding artemisinin on weekend fri-sun(for babs), and 2 day flagyl pulse on wed/thursday. On the bactrim, zithro, flagyl days my mind actually feels sharper than I can ever remember:) Too bad flagyl is so toxic (but at least it is cheap). Bactrim does not help with Bart for some of us. I am not wanting to take rifampin but would do it if bactrim does not finish off the bart. Artemisinin may be helping with Lyme/Bb but we're not supposed to take daily due to ramped up metabolism of the drug. Any way your question more or less is have I felt nuts, maniacal, crazy, luny, anxious etc. at times. Short answer YES. That and being disabled from being injured by doing an ordinary daily activity was a P8#@#^ too. What I did was self talk--- you know this is not going to last it happens at night as a way for this disease to try to rob your sleep, you must fight it beginning at least 2 hours before bedtime, for me that is licorice tea 1.5 hrs before bed, then 1 valerian capsule 1 hr before bed, If body in pain then magnesium 250 mg at bedtime, and if pain more than 2-3/10 I take dextromethorphan 30-60mg at bedtime. I have allergies and finding childrens liquid benadryl helps that and makes me drowsy very fast. With all the above I have broken the cycle of fear, anxiety ramp-up lack of restful sleep etc. That said I do think babesia is what wakes me up at 2-3 am or did untill I started the art. 2 weekends ago.
