Can a flu shot activate dormant Lyme? I was perfectly healthy until I got a flu shot in Nov. 2008. After the flu shot, I started to get weird things happening. I had and still have bad muscle twitching, tinnitus and migrating numbness to name a few. It all started after the vaccination. Could this have triggered an infection (Lyme) that I wasn't aware I had?

I don't have any proof to give you, but I believe that vaccines can cause all kinds of things to happen to our bodies.

I know there are people here who have said it did it to them!!!!!!

Okay thank you. I know others that have gotten sick after flu shots (not with Lyme though) so I just wondered if it was possible.

The last time I had a flu shot I got a HORRIBLE reaction that lasted maybe 2 days. I didn't know at the time that I had Lyme, Babs and Bart. My LLMD told me to NEVER get a flu shot again so I would bet it does.

Interesting theory about how the smallpox vaccine triggered *dormant* HIV:

On May 11th 1987, the London Times ran a front-page story, headlines, "SMALLPOX VACCINE TRIGGERED AIDS VIRUS". The gist of the story was that, somehow, the World Health Organisation (WHO) in its efforts to eradicate smallpox in the third world, had triggered millions of AIDS cases in Africa, Haiti, and Brazil. A WHO adviser said:

"I thought it was lust a coincidence until we studied the latest findings about the reactions which can be caused by Vaccination. Now I believe the smallpox vaccine theory is the explanation to The AIDS explosion".

Health statistics from WHO reveal that the greatest spread of HIV (AIDS virus) Infection coincides with the areas having the most intensive vaccination programs.

It has been speculated that smallpox vaccine given to millions throughout Africa, Haiti and Brazil has the potential to ***weaken the immune system*** of susceptible individuals.

This can result in the dormant AIDS viruses present In such people to become activated and assume virulent powers. Dr Robert Gallo, America's number one AIDS researcher has stated:

"I have been saying for some years that the use of live vaccines such as that used from smallpox can activate a dormant infection such as HIV (AIDS)."

I think the author of the above website (who passed away a few years ago) was a N.D. (naturopathic doctor?)

Also just read the last sentence in the summary here - "suggest that..." :

The vaccination may cause a change in/activate memory B cells and ***memory T cells***.

Some of the cells will form memory T cells (M) that will *survive in an inactive state* in the host for a long period of time until they re-encounter the *same antigen* (protein) and reactivate.Wikipedia

I would watch out for vaccines that contain mercury, Hg.

The H1N1 vaccine did.

Bb is very much like HIV in that it initially incorporates many ways to hide out from immune detection initially and by the time our antibodies to Bb are made, they are defective due to the loss of nutrients to MAKE the antibodies.AND...Bb is very capable of altering its various Osps (outer cell wall proteins = antigens) that our antibodies are supposed to deal with.

Look at this info. about HIV and compare:

Scientists initially thought that they could quickly develop a vaccine because vaccines for polio, smallpox, and hepatitis B were so successful.

``But we didn't take into account the unique nature of HIV,'' says microbiologist Bob Johnston, who is developing an HIV vaccine at Carolina.

***Unlike other viruses, HIV knocks out the body's ability to produce an immune response.***

So the body doesn't even recognize the virus as an intruder for weeks.

Also, as Cohen points out, the virus mutates when the body does recognize it.

``So think about this,'' he says. ``We put an antibody in front of it. The antibody kills a few particles in the swarm. But the virus replicates as quick as it can, throwing off mutants at a very high rate -- higher than many other viruses. That's a big advantage it has.''

Still, researchers tried to make a vaccine like the one for hepatitis B. They took a protein from the outer coating of the virus and genetically engineered the protein's gene into cells, then grew the cells in culture and purified the protein from them. This worked for hepatitis but not for HIV.

``The HIV protein induced immune responses,'' Johnston says.

But the neutralizing antibodies that could fight the virus weren't activated.

``So the vaccine didn't stop the virus at all.''

Note in the above about "vectored vaccines" and how they work.

Yes, it can. However, I chose to get an H1N1 vaccine even after the seasonal flu vaccine "activated" my lyme. I felt the benefits outweighed the risk. My doctor put me on more antibiotics than usual for the 2 weeks around the time I got the flu shot and for me, this prevented a lyme "activation" again.

I'm glad I did it.

I had a tetanus shot about 12 years a go that made me really, really ill. I had already been sick for about 12 years, but the shot made me much worse. I will never get another vaccine of any kind!!

I relapsed badly after a flu shot a few years ago. Took me months and months to get back to baseline.

My doc recommended I didn't take the H1n1, but we've been building up my immune system.

I always felt sick for a week or two after getting vaccinated. This was even before I got the Lyme, I think.

My daughter's symptoms for Lyme came out right after she got her Season Flu Vaccination. I think this is what brought it out.

The toxic load is already very high in individuals who get symptoms or get lyme come out of remission after shots.

Look at this site for help getting the toxic load down so your immune system can finally do its job and keep lyme and all issues at bay. Gotta get rid of toxins first to get healthy.

Not sure about lyme but I know for a fact it can activate rheumatoid arthritis. Since lyme is a cause of R.A., I have to think the answer is yes.

Any vaccine works by eliciting an immune response from the body - they teach our immune systems how to fight off pathogens by giving them something they can both identify and defeat, like a live attenuated virus or a "killed" virus.

If your immune system is compromised and unable to work properly or is busy fighting something else off, vaccines can provide yet another "enemy" when your "troops" are already over extended. This is why most physicians don't recommend giving vaccines when someone is already seriously ill (unless of course, there's chance of life threatening infection).

Unless there's a high chance of exposure to something extremely dangerous (such as from an epidemic, working in health care, or if you are planning to leave the country) its probably not worth taxing your immune system further during your recovery.

Vaccines can be very safe and effective for healthy individuals , but for those that are already ill or have certain chronic conditions, its unlikely a good idea to have anymore than necessary. Remember though, the main thing that allow the ill to refuse to vaccinate and remain safe and unlikely to be exposed, is the herd immunity from those that DO.

I recommend never getting a vaccine.
