i have a brand of diflucan that i have not used before.

the first pill made me pretty sick so i cut it in half.

now i've taken diflucan before but it was a different brand and i had no side effects at all.

have you tried different brands and had different side effects?

do they vary? are some better or worse?

My mother was a RN and she swears that brands vary considerably. She has mostly mentioned a difference in efficacy rather than side effects.

Fillers and dyes can make a huge difference in side effects for some people. Those who have issues with lactose, dyes etc. might feel worse on certain brands. How much worse would depend on their tolerance for the offending additive.

As far as efficacy, how tightly compressed a pill is, dyes, fillers etc. can make a difference for some people in their ability to properly digest and absorb a medicaiton.

It's possible that your new brand is better absorbed and thus is causing more die-off. Has your condition changed much since the last time you were on this medication? It's possible that it is worse and so you have more die off because of that.

That's all I can think of at the moment. Asking a pharmacist might be helpful.

The only brand my doctor said he wanted me on is Plaquenil. The rest are generic, as I have no rx insurance.

I also take brand name thyroid meds due to variability in generic doses.

the only brand name drug I am told to take is Biaxin XL. Everything else is generic.
