Hi - I have a request in from a magazine which focuses on natural lifestyles - they asked for info on all-natural and/or plant-based methods for repelling ticks - I guess across the board - us, pets, land.

I know something about the subject but am wondering whether any of you are experts on this and if so, if you could either list some info and links here or pm me - thanks!

I've heard over and over, eat lots of garlic and the ticks will stay away. I'm not sure what to use on pets and land.

I use Sevin on yard, but I know that is toxic.

Up for more responses...

Do any of you use natural tick repellents on yourself or your pets?

I use Orange Guard on my clothing, also known as TKO Orange, from oranges.

http://www.ecoblends.com/

Not an expert at all, but used ecoblends last year and intend to do so this year as well. Contains essential oils that are actually good for your skin and repel ticks and other insects at the same time.

There's one made from coconut oil that is made in Germany.

This one is made from garlic - http://www.mosquitobarrier.com/

I think I read about one made from tomato plants that's made in North Carolina.

And there's also diatomaceous earth... http://www.dirtworks.net/Diatomaceous-Earth.html

Hope this helps.

The tick/insect repellent that is derived from tomato plants is called BioUD. Scientists at North Carolina State University developed BioUD. The product "Bite Blocker" contains BioUD.

Bite Blocker and BioUD can be purchased here:

BioUD is reportedly a more effective tick repellent than DEET

Anything to prevent someone from getting this awful illness is worthwhile!

The world really needs to know about it.

Thx for input - up for any more info/testimonies -

Has anyone used Herbal Armor? It consists of five natural essential oils, but I couldn't see what they are.

Or any product similar to it, with a mix of essential oils?

Or can we make our own mixes of essential oils?
